So you want a cap and ball revolver?

Definitely how "misinformation" gets perpetuated though . . . Declarative statements with no explanation of just how the Remington platform is superior in strength to the open-top . . . comparing "correct builds" of course. I know Gatofeo posted this a long time ago in different...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Actually, Ruger uses a Ruger 45 cal barrel and Uberti's offerings (across the board save for belt pistols) have 1:18" twist (since early 2000's). Pietta uses slow twist in their Colt open-top platform revolvers but fast twist in their Remington platform (maybe 1:16" (looks a tad faster than...

Here ya go, sorry about that!! This is the set screw installed. The main spring contacting the set screw Ends any further movement of the action. Mike

This pic shows a "punch divot" I like to put on the end of the wedge (especially on "show pieces"). It keeps the punch from slipping and allowing ugly words to come out of one's mouth!! Thanks to Dickydalton for letting me use his beautiful revolver for this thread!!! Mike

This is my preferred sequence for the "Outlaw Mule" (coil springs). The photo below shows the spring orientation "as installed" . First, install the "keeper" for the springs and the bolt block. Next is the hammer with hand installed. Don't forget the action shield if yours has one (also...

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Gino753, I don't think correcting ANY open top revolver is "detrimental". They shoulda built them "correctly" to begin with !! I'm in the middle of posting a pictorial of the "Outlaw Mule" "custom" I'm doing on Dickydalton's very limited, pristine, 2nd Gen Rbt. E. Lee Commemorative (made...

The interference pins sit on flat surfaces cut on the screws (hence the reason why the screws are installed during the drilling process). This marks the surface location on each screw ( yes, they should always go back in the same hole. That's why I always mark the bolt screw with a cut on the...

DRILL BABY DRILL !!!!! Let's start with the hand spring and pushrod hole in the frame!! Next, arbor drilled and tapped- Then the cap post - Action stop - not to mention a little GGW thrown in 😎) Then of course there's the holes for the interference pins. This one is for the hammer...

Dickydalton's Robert. E. Lee Commemorative Custom

The hand length is critical for timing. The first step in "setting" timing is correct hand length. Since the trigger sear and full **** notch location are a "given", the hand can be dressed (shortened) or stretched to make LOCKUP happen simultaneously when reaching full ****. Once hand length is...

Anyway, here's a bottom view of the "longer arm" . It's polished now ,sorry about the glare. Most of the time the hammer roller looses contact with the main spring . . . . especially if the spring has a track for it. The problem is the roller is buried too deep and the "cheeks" will contact...

Dickydalton's Robert. E. Lee Commemorative Custom

Ok, as for the other end of the bolt (the ball end or head), I understood what Bob Munden was doing by cutting a "step" in the head and basically making a 2-step head. As the first step clears the cyl notch that's appearing above it, it rises into the notch guaranteeing there wont be any throw-...

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Well, I typically back up my claims with pics. Not necessarily "disbelief" but I haven't seen a 2nd Gen with correct length arbor in over 10 yrs . . . and I've probably seen more than you. Heaven forbid anyone learn anything from your posts . . . it would be, as you suggest, too much...

I'll just say, "measuring" is for the birds. The wedge changes everything . . . there's arbor diameter / arbor hole clearance (hence the big reason for NOT making changes just to do a stupid test!!!) and of course length under tension differences you can't measure. Soooo . . . Mike
