    stuck nipples

I’ve done similar to ernbar described in his post with a minor difference. I made a Dremeled nipple wrench size notch in a 1/4” drive socket. I put two chamber size dowels in the drill vice on my drill press I put the cylinder on the dowels and mounted homemade socket on a 1/4” drive in the...

    Gardening ..again

I had an old retired small farmer tell me if you catch a couple of good years in your lifetime and paid off the mortgage you did good. By good years he meant when prices and yields were good in the same year.

A few Lancaster rifles for some upcoming shows

I can’t comment on value because I don’t have the knowledge. The rifle appears to be in pretty good condition. I will suggest a gun with family ties can be very important to someone and be worth more than general market value. Where are you going to find another one?

    New Arkansas Reg: “Alternative weapons”

It’s all about selling more licenses for the revenue. Maybe secondarily to reduce the deer herd if that’s an issue. Unfortunately, us traditional muzzerloaders don’t make up a large enough percentage of the hunting population to matter much in most states.

I have a 50 and if it was all I had I would use it. I’d try to find a light accurate load good to 25-30 yards. With larger calibers you need to be more careful about where that ball will go if you shoot into trees and over the horizon.

Bullet suggestions for a 1:48 twist

When I was a kid, minute of prairie dog at various distances with a 22 was my dream. Sometimes I got lucky, other times I missed. It was an open sights affair and a varmit rifle with a scope was only a dream. These days a 1 MIA target a 100 is still a dream. Minute of deer is realistic with a...

Were mzldrs and revolvers cleaned back in the day, as we do today?

I’m guessing a lot of things didn’t get written down in detail. I was a young kid on a farm in the 1950s. I’m not sure anyone wrote down how to adjust a two row row crop cultivator or a go-dig. Some folks called a go-dig a go-devil. Many other simple tasks are like that. Someone shows someone...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

A couple of days ago my daughter who is visiting and I hit a couple of thrift shops. She beat me to a wool blanket at one for $5. At the next one I found a nice condition green army blanket and wool throw for $6 total. Now deciding what to do with the green army blanket. I’m acquiring enough...

    riflin

I’m inclined to agree with Ronaldroth49b that the reason for freshening often had to do with the iron barrels. Modern muzzleloaders have steel barrels which are much more resistant to wear.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

One of the few negatives for a 45 or 50 is you are often shooting into the air for squirrels and a miss results in a projectile that maintains a lot more energy down range as it goes to places unknown.

    Ball diameter and weight

My Pieta’s seem to work okay with a 451, but I generally use a 454. I have an old replica Rogers&Spencer and it needs a 457. Don’t ask how I found out.
