Question regarding the use of tow in a smoothbore

Can you give us an example of the results you are getting? What is the standard you are looking for for, "any better," or not any better? Also, how much powder are you using to get those results?

Question regarding the use of tow in a smoothbore

I lube it with the same oil:beeswax lube I use on patches. I preform the "tow" (I'm actually using "faux-tow" made of cut up rope) into lubed balls about the same size as my roundball. I work the pasty lube mixture into the fibers as I form the ball.

    tick treatment

Maybe not, but infections of other kinds can be had by leaving the head of the tick in the skin, or both Lyme and other diseases as well as secondary infections can be transmitted by squeezing the tick too hard trying to just pull it out.

An improperly removed tick can be as bad or worse than one left in....

Is it the so called "bite" we are making too big of a deal about for your manliness? Or the nasty diseases that can come from one? Especially one tiny little pin head size tick that went undiscovered?

T-shirt Patching NOT a good Idea

Definitely not a good weave for a rifle, but for a smoothbore the patch isn't in as much jeopardy. It is more just there to hold the ball in place until the shot is fired, and to maybe carry some lube to make cleaning easier later.

    Made a Lyman pouch

You can. Start with a simple but good pattern. By good I mean symmetrical and not too complex to cut out. I use Manila office file envelopes cut to lay flat in two single layers (the front and the back separated) or for a pattern I think I'll use a few times I'll use thin cardstock file folders...

T-shirt Patching NOT a good Idea

Some lube on the patch should have prevented that. We're you using any? If so, what?

    Made a Lyman pouch

How do you make your pattern? Do you fold your paper or cardstock in half to form a centerline?

    Made a Lyman pouch

The original Lyman pouch. Note rounded bottom corners and what is thought to be the remnants of a leather button for closure.

my recreation of the Shenandoah Valley double pouch

Excellent. I have a question on the original. Are there two lines of stitch? It almost looks like there is both a line like a lazy running stitch (I almost thought it was laced) and a saddle stitch.

    .62 Rifle Build, 2nd Try

I have a .610 mold, I'd have sent you some ball to try. Just curious, why the jump from .595 to .610 skipping over .600?

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Is your knee hot or warmer to the touch than other parts of your leg? Wondering about possible infection. Might be time for a follow up, at least a call, to the orthopedic DR. More protein is a good thing. Maybe try some collagen powder like Bub's Naturals, I put it in coffee but would be fine...
