Harpers Ferry Model 1803 Flintlock Rifle

The mainspring is likely to break. No factory parts. If you send the lock to one of the folks that specializes in locks have them replace both springs. The replacement Davis took a little fitting, not bad though.

NSSA forum has a for sale section. Great deals there.

    Civil war era rifle?

Stick to a two band gun if you want to use it for hunting. The three band guns are just too long to deal with. Now, putting a bayonet on a three band is a real attention getter! I have several originals and repros. An original 1856 Enfield Naval rifle is my favorite. I have a repro Cook...

    Barrel Bluing help

I use Perma Blue. Then rub it back with OOOO and oil. This protects the finish from rusting and gives it a nice patina. I want the look of a used rifle, not a fresh one in a museum.

Sad day, Thinking of calling it quits

Don’t sell. I get to a friends a ranch near Yorktown pretty regular. Maybe we can shoot sometime together.

If you are able to hunt during the week, you will find the type 2 areas nearly deserted.

WANTED Wrought Iron Brackets for Hanging a Rifle

I looked everywhere for options on hooks to display rifles, the prices were ridiculous, plus I need ten. Settled on just using wood dowels inserted and glued in the wood. A side benefit is that by making the dowel longer you can put two guns on one pair of dowels. Plus after being stained they...

This is true. Sniper overwatch can be fun. Hunt them.

Also, take a look at the Texas Type 2 hunting permit. It gets you into public lands, and private lands leased by the state, to hunt. Tens of thousands of acres across the state. Lastly TPWD conducts draw hunts. Register online. Most cost $2 to enter. Some prime hunts there. Some are even black...

Wizard, where do you live? I, at least, can take you out to the lease I run near Meridian. 2000 acres. No openings right now but happy to let you shoot a doe as a guest.

An ill-used Zouave in the house

Two things… I use spray oven cleaner to strip stocks. Nothing has survived it from Italian repros to Garands, Krags and 1903’s. Spray on, go inside. Come out in 15 mins and spray it off with the hose. Then spray it again. After the second washing with the hose it’s stripped. Easy Off, full...

Harpers Ferry Model 1803 Flintlock Rifle

Mine is a Euroarms .54, once the Davis lock went on it was awesome. Stripped the finish and stained the stock dark. Wiped off that fake brown on the barrel and browned it (and rubbed it back to worn steel look). Silver front sight and it’s a great gun.

    Unboxing disappointment

$1300 buys a lot of lightly used second hand gun, OP. And you get a much better lock. No reason to ever buy a new spaghetti long gun. Ever.

    A complaint about Tallpine’s blades

No pics so I can’t defend my veracity, but let’s just say my aim was a bit off with LaReyna my .62 caliber Hawken gun, and leave it at that. Buy a knife from this man. You will not be disappointed.

Y’all leave Dan alone. He is working on a Top Secret, Oppenheimer, Philadelphia Experiment, kind of project for me right now. All you (other) poors will bow before my magnificence when it is done!
