Anyone have photos of finished Colonials with barrel and lock left in the white?

OP, on several guns I have used cold blue on the locks, then rubbed it back. On the barrels I used Laurel Mt Forge browning solution, then rub that back with oiled steel wool. These protect from surface rust (an issue with just in the white) and give a nicely used, antique finish.

HC barrel finish for a 1770s...

It is written that Kenton always wore clothing that was brown or tan and never wore bright colors. That’s unusual enough in the time period that it was observed and noted. So I doubt he had a barrel in the white on his gun, either by design or by choice. But that means others, maybe a lot of...

SOLD Horace Dimick Style .50 Cal Half-stock Rifle

That’s a steal for $1000. I have enough cap guns, and prefer an earlier period, but that is about as perfect a rifle as you will find. I love modern guns for their functional ability and precision. But our guns here, like this one and so many others, are works of art that also function as...

    Cleaning Frontier Firearms

I do t think a ball screw was uncommon at all. However I did read that on a mission into Ohio to attack a Shawnee village every man in the unit discharged his weapon into a hollow tree that had been found so they could load a fresh load for the fight. The hollow tree muffled the report so as...

    Loading technique for hunting

I use alcohol to wipe the bore, then load. I use a non-petroleum based oil as a bore protection, so I don’t think it really matters, but it makes me feel better. I lube my patches with Track’s Mink Oil. Again, not really required, but before I load a hunting load I run a patch with mink oil...

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

My Firelocks are my primary choices. Just got a new 6.5PRC, but those types of guns are reserved for places like South Texas where it’s all blinds and senderos and shots are well over 100 yards.
