SOLD Horace Dimick Style .50 Cal Half-stock Rifle

This is a really pretty, well-made rifle in the style of Horace Dimick. It is a .50 caliber brass-fitted halfstock with German silver patchbox. Its 35" heavily browned barrel has an excellent bore. Top flat has “R. Byers” in script. Roger was an established and respected builder of rifles for a great many years. The tiger maple stock has been stained dark. Minimal handling marks. This rifle has obviously seen very little use. LOP is 13.75". Weighs 9 lbs. This guy has a single phase (adjustable) set trigger. You must “set” the rear trigger prior to firing.

I’m asking $1000 shipped for this fine rifle. I accept most forms of payment to include electronic options.

And let me tell you… she shoots as good as she looks! I’m no crack-shot, and I took second place with this rifle at last month’s club shoot. I was just a couple points away from beating the gentleman who’s regularly “top dog”. Not too shabby, considering I had only shot it once before.

I really think that if someone were to put in the time with this rifle, they’d be a force to be reckoned with!

Well… it’s not over until the fat lady sings! I haven’t received funds yet. I’d like to think a man’s word is his bond, but I’ve learned a deal is never done until money has exchanged hands. Unfortunately, I’ve had folks on the forum commit to purchasing firearms from me in the past and not follow through.

That’s a steal for $1000. I have enough cap guns, and prefer an earlier period, but that is about as perfect a rifle as you will find.

I love modern guns for their functional ability and precision. But our guns here, like this one and so many others, are works of art that also function as finely crafted tools.

Would like to see a thread describing the functionality of the trigger guard on this gun. They always seem like they get in the way to me. Was the hook functional? Or more fashion of the day/period?

While it’s important to note that ergonomics are largely dependent on one’s anatomy, I find the hook works well to place my middle finger over and assist in pulling the gun into my shoulder; however, one doesn’t have to use it in this manner. You can reach the trigger just fine by placing your middle finger behind this spur. Regardless of the grip you choose, I find it to be very natural and comfortable in either case.
