    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

Get well, Sir! Have someone drive you to where you can see those Shinin’ Mountains!

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

Lots of men walked a long way carrying their rifles. It wasnt even uncommon for it to happen. Who was it that walked, in the dead of winter, from Utah through South Pass and across the plains to St Louis? They were better men than me. But I won’t live up to them by watering down the challenge.

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

Yall complaining about an extra two pounds making the rifle unusable are embarrassing to me as a shooter and a proponent of the hobby/sport. And the Men that used and carried these guns across thousands of miles of wilderness averaged 5’10 and 170 pounds…at best. The Nancy’s complaining about...

    Woodsrunner Question?

Wood carving was the cheapest and easiest part of the entire building process for the period builders. I suspect they knocked it out without giving it much thought. Some basic carving was likely considered standard fair on every gun. Adding additional carving or inlays likely was an added...

    Lifespan of a Rifle?

This comment is for the thread…not really directed at Grenadier1758… I think you have to be careful using military arms for an answer in this context. Many, maybe most, sat in armories until they became obsolete and were surplused. I have a very early Winchester M1 that is all original...

    Lifespan of a Rifle?

Great question and one I have asked myself many times. I had an eye opening experience this summer while visiting the Museum of the Fur Trade. Last year I bought a used .52 contemporary long rifle from a member here that was built in the style of the Kibler Colonial, 42” barrel, nice gun...

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

These sights were designed to be indexed on the belt buckle of your opponent, the round would rise during its flight and then drop again eventually dropping back down to the belt buckle again. This longer distance was the Battle Zero distance for the weapon. The 30-06 cartridge in the...

Love the color case even on the lock screws. You can see the one stock ding in the first pic here. In normal light it isn’t visible.

FOR SALE Unfired Whitworth rifle. Plus extras.

Price will be $2100 plus shipping in a wooden box. I was told this was P-H barrel, but lacking visible British proofs, I’m not certain of that based on the serial number. The only barrel marks are those shown in the photos. There is no factory name visible, just the Italian proofs and date...

A fowler for round ball accuracy

Make a smooth rifle and watch the groups shrink 60%. I would also suggest upping g your charge to 80 grns or so…speed makes a big difference in how those balls fly from a smooth barrel.

Kibler fowler - Has anyone shot round ball?

Using modern steel I don’t think any barrel thickness Kibler might use will have any safety issues at all. It’s black powder, not Red Dot. Barrel stiffness however plays a big role in accuracy, longer barrels even more so. I have a smooth rifle that is full length bedded and it shoots...

A fowler for round ball accuracy

The .62 smoith rifle pictured below is my favorite smoothbore of the three I have. It had some real architecture problems when I got it so it went to a local builder for some fixes. He ended up full length bedding the barrel and holy cow did that make a difference! Before and after it had a...
