    Kibler Pistol?

Either a smooth bore early furtrade pistol. Or a mid-century brass barreled smoothbore such as posted above. Washington had a pair of those that he carried. We don’t ride around on horses all day, so something on the small side (for the period) that could carried in a belt or sash.

    Kibler Brown Bess?

Since I know Jim is watching this thread…a question… How many guns do you need to sell to make a project profitable for you? Economies of Scale exist for all manufactured products…would you give us a ballpark number? I also believe that offering a Bess, even if you only broke even on the...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

I would like to see a smooth bore furtrade era pistol. A good Bess would be cool, but honestly I’m not sure how broad the market would actually be for that outside our small world of historical interest. The French gun was more common and a better weapon…but no one outside of the real...

Taking a flintlock i to the RSA

Those are very interesting regulations relating to the commercial manufacture and shipment of hazardous materials via commercial carrier. Not sure how that applies to individuals with materials that are specifically exempted as quoted above. Additionally, there are very specific requirements...

Taking a flintlock i to the RSA

Does RSA not permit ammunition loaded with black powder? If so, then by all means don’t bring any of that. I’m not suggesting you break any law. I also would never travel to RSA. The folks running that country are not friends of Freedom…they do like Freedom’s money tho…

Taking a flintlock i to the RSA

Show me where loaded ammunition has specific exemptions related to black powder in the loaded ammo. There are none. Even ammo loaded with black powder can be shipped via normal carriers just like any other ammunition, several companies sell it. From the BATFE web page: “However, an exemption...

Taking a flintlock i to the RSA

Go ahead an tell me why you can’t put black powder in shell casings? I have done it on multiple occasions crossing international boundaries. 45-70 cases with a 185 grain 45 ACP bullet each hold 90 grns of 3F. Carried a muzzleloader and a 45-70 lever gun on the trips. Tell me again why it...

    WANTED Shooting sticks

I use thin bamboo, 3/8” or so. Cut a bunch and throw it in the attic to dry. You can usually find some standing dead for immediate use. Tie together at one end. I use pieces 30” long. Perfect for sitting, easy to carry.

    Rifleman Belt Axe

I was told early on that round handles = hawks, and flat handles (thru the head) = axe/hatchet.

Saw that. Liked the looks of the handle supplied by Oct Country

    Tacks…were they an Eastern thing?

Specifically looking at adding a few to a hawk handle, but it occurred to me that tacks (and to a large degree, fringe) were more of a Western thing than an Eastern one. Any opinions on that? Were tacks used East of the Mississippi prior to 1800?

Tried out my Callahan bag mold

I have made a long narrow bag out of thick soft leather. It holds the mold, the ladle and scrape lead. The bag makes a great “potholder” so the mold does not burn your hands.

    Carrying a pistol

My experience has been that 40 grains of 3F is about all you can use in a normal length barrel before you reach the point of diminishing returns.
