Testing new brand of black powder

I went to a shoot yesterday and brought it with me. Was hoping to mess a round and increase my load to get the same POI as I do with Swiss. I ended up having to use more than I thought. By dummy self didn’t look in my box at my powder supply. I didn’t have enough Swiss to last the whole...

Testing new brand of black powder

Thanks. We did not weight just volume. But I can weight out some for fun. I did stop at a friends place and we looked at it using a 10X magnifying glass he has. The American powder looked like tiny lava rocks. The Swiss like hard coal and the Goex soft coal. I know sheen from the Swiss...

Testing new brand of black powder

Yes it’s not quite there yet. I sent them my results and am hoping to work with them to improve. Still exciting to have someone going through all the hassle to produce powder. And they are only like 10 miles away. Also I do shoot a fair amount so depending on how much of an increase I have...

Testing new brand of black powder

So a local gun shop started producing powder and last week I bought a pound to test out. Went to friends range and we used his sons chronograph. We felt strange shooting from the bench since everything we always shoot is off hand. Here are the results. I did like the powder and will have to...

    Using a chronograph

That was a good shoot. I was there last month for the “chicken shoot”. Came home with enough chicken for a lot of dinners!! Looking forward to the state shoot. It will be fun

    Using a chronograph

Ok so here’s the report. Less than ideal conditions with the rain but we were under roof. For both of us it was very strange to shoot off a bench. We both shoot a lot and all off hand. 25yds five shot groups. Grouping was good. I shoot Swiss normally and friend still has a stash of goex so...

    Using a chronograph

At this point it’s pretty small operation. I’m on the Board of the Pa Federation of Black Powder Shooters. And will spread the word of it shoots well. As far as it stacking up to Swiss, well that’s a tall order.

Nope it’s legit. I spoke with them and see their set up

    Using a chronograph

Thanks for the responses. Like I said I hope it shoots well. I’m thinking this might be the only powder produced in the US. And the fact it’s so close is a huge bonus

    Using a chronograph

So a local gun shop recently started producing black powder. And I picked up a pound of 3f for a friend and some 2f for myself. Anyway going to his range tomorrow and we are going to set up his sons chrono to test it out compaired to goex and Swiss. So he’s never used it and I’m wondering how...
