Well, I finally dry-balled
I did nearly the same thing and had the same realization as I rammed the ball with my short starter..... Just this past Saturday..... The last time (and first) I ever did that was with my .50 and a minie ball..... They pull real easy with the ball puller luckily cause I was planning on the gun...- CapPopper

New gun options
Looking at a kit of some sort and am somewhat undecided so I came here for wisdom..... Looking at maybe getting a kibler colonial kit most likely in .58 cause I feel the need for a big gun now that I have a .32..... The kibler is a little more than I really want to spend but I know it's quality...- CapPopper

It finally happened....
You may actually get better penetration with a lighter load..... Those soft lead balls pancake when they hit hard stuff going fast (or even soft stuff) but being under the hide is common. My .50 with the 360 grain Lee Minnie won't exit often if the range is real close...... Bullet ends up about...- CapPopper

Does anyone have a pic of powder in a pan?
I like to just fill the trough all the way across on my .32s pan but since I'm using a homemade pan primer sometimes I get more and sometimes less...... It doesn't seem to picky as long as I get a good spark and don't cover the touchhole.- CapPopper

Dry balled my 32 over the weekend and after I worked powder through the touch hole I too got a woosh and I could hear the ball hit the cardboard I was shooting at...... So I would agree sounds like a dry ball- CapPopper

Sizing minie balls
I must've just got lucky..... I can easily thumb start mine with no problem and they push down with just a little pressure on the rod..... Won't come off the charge when carried (hasn't happened yet but I check anyways) and I get 1" or better 50 yard groups all as it drops from the mold..... It...- CapPopper

Sizing minie balls
Who sizes their minie balls? Just wondering if I'm missing out on something great. I've always been under the impression they were designed to fit a fairly wide variety of bore variation that you see often in original guns. I figure as long as it loads ok and shoots good there's no point right...- CapPopper

Small game- .32 cal vs smoothbore
That's one of the nice things about the 32..... If you could even get a ball to 200 yards it's only doing like 250 fps with around 9ftlbs of energy..... I mean I guess if you were extremely unlucky it may take an eye out..... But it's highly unlikely it would break a good piece of glass with...- CapPopper

MAP seems to do best. Patches so tight I can barely get them started and can't get them out of I use the rod on the rifle without something to pull it..... Once patches come out clean I put some 99% iso through the gun to take moisture out and dry patch that out. Let it dry and use what amounts...- CapPopper

Im saying no matter what i have tried it doesn't seem to matter..... And I don't clean with it..... Dawn and water or plain water or MAP or simple green...... Clean till snow white patches then pick any kind of preventative could be barricade could be olive oil or whatever of any base and make...- CapPopper

Any doesn't matter..... Usually use an acid neutralizing preventative we get at work that we use in very expensive surfaces...... But it doesn't matter what oil rem oil barricade or anything..... You name it still rusts...... Unless I take steel wool or scotch brite to the bore and then...- CapPopper

That's what I was going to add...... Shot a deer on Tuesday night cleaned gun till white patches...... Oiled wake up check and it's rusting..... Scrub again oil and guess what? Today it's rusting....... I hate pyrodex- CapPopper
