The CCI magnum caps are a little hotter than the standard caps. I believe they are only offered in #11 size. They are recommended when using black powder substitutes, which in some guns are harder to ignite. They are absolutely fine to use with any rifle and powder.

The Magnum caps were developed to fire Pyrodex synthetic muzzleloading powder. Pyrodex needs a higher temperature to get reliable ignition and using the standard caps often caused misfires.

Using the Magnum caps with real black powder or any other muzzleloading powder won't hurt anything.

Last time I bought #11 CCI caps they only had magnums in stock so that's what I bought. I don't use subs just BP, and I see no difference between magnum and regular in my rifle.

A few years ago I bought a 20 gauge shotgun online and when I got it it was not as clean inside as I wanted it. I cleaned it up and took it to the range and was going to pattern it. I could not get it to fire using regular #11 caps, trying them multiple times.

I was walking back to my truck to pull the load when a fellow shooter stopped me and handed me 2 caps and said try these.

Each barrel went off with a single cap. I asked him what they were and he handed me the tin. CCI Magnum #11 caps.
He said he uses them on hard to fire guns and before pulling a load that won't fire.
