What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Made a deal the other day on my first ROA. Had to sit down and order a pile of stuff from TOW. Now I’m fixin ta order some leather to pack it in. My kids will be ticked off when they find out I spent their inheritance, lol.

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

@Philip A. I'm not sure how to describe the buttplate. This rifle was made by The Gun Works in Oregon over 30 years ago. As @Loyalist Dave pointed out though, they both have a lot of surface area to distribute recoil. Even at that, I shot the yeager last year in the light benchrest aggregate...

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

Octagon to round is possible. I'm not sure how historically accurate, but I believe it would be. I wish the smoothbore barrel had been made that way. I could have had it done - I just wasn't as experienced way back then.

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

Yeagers and English sporting rifles all day. These are what I hunt with. The English sporting rifle is a two barrel affair. One is a rifled .72 caliber; the other a 12 gauge smoothbore. Pictured is the smoothbore. I hunted with this rifle for 20+ years. I picked up the Yeager a couple years ago...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I took two guns out to shoot today. One was a black gun with a muffler on the barrel. The other was my .40 flintlock. The flintlock is more fun…

    Accuracy standard

Seems to me you’re on the right path. Ball diameter, patch thickness, lube, etc all have an impact on accuracy. When I commented on my group sizes earlier, that was with the combinations I finally found to be best for my rifle. Those groups easily double in size by changing components.

    How do you prime?

Thanks. I wish I was that talented. This was done by Bill Smith. It is hand made and hand stitched. It’s his Virginia style bag. https://billsmithblackpowder.com/virginia/

I use the doohickey. I responded just so I could use the word doohickey.

    Accuracy standard

My eyes (and wind conditions) are the limiting factor for me. Off the bench, my .62 and .72 rifles will put 5 shots in a ragged hole at 75 yards. When I back things up to 100 yards my groups easily spread to 1 1/2 - 3” (maybe 4”) if the wind is calm. If it’s windy? I’m happy keeping shots on a...

Do's and Don'ts when buying first BP shotgun

My experience is limited to one hunting season but I’ll share what I’ve learned. I picked up a beautiful Pedersoli 20 gauge SxS this past fall. I hunted ducks with it. I hunt ponds on our property and shots are relatively close. It was adequate. Missed game was my fault. I had a few cripples...

New to me Pedersoli 12 guage

    Here’s some information that might be useful: Powder measure setting to measure ounces of bird shot: 55 grain setting = 2 drams = 3/4 oz shot 62 grain setting = 2 1/4 drams = 7/8 oz shot 68 grain setting = 2 1/2 drams= 1 oz shot 75 grain setting = 2 3/4 drams = 1 1/8 oz shot 82 grain...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Went to a Texas Muzzleloading Rifle ***. shoot today. I shot some trap with my new (to me) 10 gauge. It went bang reliably. I hit some birds. The ones I missed I can’t blame on the gun.

    CLOSED Powder Horn "Carpe Diem"

Bob, this horn speaks to me. I really like the hunter and his dog facing formidable prey. It is truly art that you should be proud of. You need a lawaway plan, lol.
