    Ballistol-based lube?

China is notorious for reverse- engineering and flat-out stealing intellectual property, including copyright protected products, certainly wouldn't put it past them to copy and market a clone of Ballistol.

    Ballistol-based lube?

Am familiar with Allen from gun cases and shooting accessories, but haven't seen this stuff. 🤔 Notice the Ballistol reference, is it a generic equivalent of Ballistol, or a black-powder bore cleaner containing Ballistol as an ingredient?

    Ballistol-based lube?

His book and others have helped me a lot, but so has finding an active club that regularly holds matches, and seeking the advice and tudaledge of the better and more experienced shooters.... gunsmiths.... and manufacturers.

    Ballistol-based lube?

Actually, I run the same test on each one of the patch materials shown, often multiple times, also for each ball size, and for each of my rifles. This is about half of them, not including the ones that I tested and sold. This is my patch material box. My post above was simply meant to...

    Ballistol-based lube?

The water acts as a carrier. Yes, once it evaporates it is pure ballistol left behind, but how much per unit of surface area? That's what the various concentrations control, is how much ballistol is evenly distributed per square inch, or centimeter, or whatever unit of surface area. For example...

    Ballistol-based lube?

Ok, honestly was a sincere question. The last time I shot game was 40+ years ago and not with a muzzleloader. The last three deer I killed were taken with the fender of my mini-van. In the Army, during inclement weather we used to stretch cheap dollar store balloons (preferably black) over the...

    Ballistol-based lube?

Why would it not be good for other applications? It's not wet, so won't contaminate powder, won't freeze up or melt at temperatures endurable by humans. Won't increase likelihood of rust if left loaded for a few days. Easy to store for long periods, and transport.

    Ballistol-based lube?

Use Dutch Schultz's method and test what combo works best for you in your rifle. Mix small samples of different concentrations of Ballistol/ water. Soak a strip of patch material with each. You can label each with a Sharpy marker at each end to tell them apart and lay them on horizontal...

    32 accuracy at 50yds,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That's OK, we don’t have to like what others do, and they don't have to like what you do. I have no use for sports cars, or golf clubs. Your mileage may vary.

    32 accuracy at 50yds,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The Gun on the bench was supposed to be my .32cal Cherokee, but on closer inspection is actually my .36cal Senica. The Cherokee doesn't have a brass nose piece or a patch-box. The image above is the muzzle of the T/C Hawken that I put a .32cal Green Mountain drop-in barrell on, and added a...

    32 accuracy at 50yds,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It depends, my .32cal T/ C Cherokee might or might not be as accurate as my T/C Hawken with .32cal Green Mountain barrell, but the sights are not as good, and I don't shoot it as well. That being said, I have shot sub- 1" groups at 50yds.

    Flat spots on tumbled balls

Assuming you where at least 14 when you started, that would put you well into your 90's, all I can say is that if you're still shooting.... God has blessed you! 🙏 Much respect 🫡

    Flat spots on tumbled balls

Will have to give it a try, do you get better results with cotton or synthetic?

    Flat spots on tumbled balls

Granted those are what I call "wallet groups " can't do that on command....yet. But the top target was at 50yds with my .36cal and the bottom was at 100yds with my .50cal. This is the best I've shot in an actual match. 50yds.

    Flat spots on tumbled balls

I tumble in a rotary tumbler, primarily to get rid of the sprue. I get similar flat spots, don't seem to affect accuracy, as evidenced by: Will follow this thread however, am curious to see what solution you find.

    Preventing bore rust

I used WD-40 for a while as it was suggested in Dutch Schultz's waterless cleaning system, but found that it leaves behind a tacky feeling residue after it dries, and carbon goo builds up in the flash channel between the nipple and the breech. Went back to flushing with water, then drying by...

    Weight sorting cast lead balls.

Was getting really inconsistent..440 balls, almost egg shaped and several grains underweight for their size. Was actually considering selling the mold and buying another. Looking at my Lyman dual cavity mold, I noticed buildup of lead and graphite in the cavity and between the halves...

    lubing patches

That's why the other part of Duch Shultz's system is to swab between shots. You swab with a cleaning patch moistened with whatever you prefer, the dry pre-lubed patches are only to patch the ball, not to swab the bore. The point is consistently shot to shot, wet lubed patches are not always...

    TC Hawken Rifle barrel/caliber swaps

Was it a .54, .56 smoothbore, or .58? They where 1" across the flats instead of 15/16ths. Also, sometimes the wedge lug is a bit too far forward or back, or an aftermarket patent breech was used that needs a bit of "fitting"

    TC Hawken Rifle barrel/caliber swaps

FYI: A Seneca barrel will fit into a Cherokee stock, but a Cherokee barrell won't fit into a Senica stock, the under-barrel rib gets in the way.
