    And Another Kibler Colonial

I like the molding you did, nice and straight. Thats going to look real good. I'm having trouble carving straight lines even when it's drawn out, Ha. Keep up the good work......Labrat

Building a Pecatonica Tennessee Classic Longrifle

I knew it!! That wood was going to be gorgeous when finished. Good selection on color & finish and the trigger guard it even holds up the rifle. I like it. Nice work shop and man size table to work on. You do phenomenal work and I look forward to your next one........Labrat

Inlay break, now some metal work...

Thank you Norman & John. I have experience on drawing and engraving metal. No experience in carving wood and horns. As you've seen my work I really suck at it. Ha! But I'm staying the course and gonna do the best I can..............Hi Brokennock and Thank you for your remarks. I accept all...

Inlay break, now some metal work...

The indian head inlay wiped me out and I'm taking another break from carving. Turning my attention to some engraving on the barrel. This is still in the rough stage and I added some ink so it shows up. Still have along ways to go but I will get there.......Labrat

Building a Pecatonica Tennessee Classic Longrifle

You've done another beautiful job. I love that there are no inlays or embellishments to distract the beauty of the wood. Can't wait to see it fully finished. I have been cutting and gouging wood for about 4 days now and I don't know how you do it everyday. I guess my age is showing and I do...

    First inlay attempt......

Thank you Col. I was wondering how this was done without screws & rivets. I will be sure to burr the back so I get a good adhesion. Is there a brand of epoxy that works best?..........Labrat

    First inlay attempt......

Thank you all for the feedback. The left line is suppose to be a slight s curve and I had a grain chip out there. I will correct that and make the right side to match. This is a sweeping curve and is at the very lower end. For now I think I will leave inlay as is and hope the finishing sanding...

    First inlay attempt......

Getting tired of scraping & sanding so I turned toward making a brass inlay. I cut some brass, engraved it and inlaid it as best I could. Copied it from H. Rupp design. I believe it suppose to be an indian girl. My inlay sucks with small gaps and I must decide on scrapping this one and...

    And Another Kibler Colonial

Great job on the shinny brass and you have a beautiful piece of wood. I thought I had a really bad work bench but you put me to shame, Ha! Great job and I am also waiting on a piece of scrap wood from Kimber to practice my inlay. They forgot to add it to my kit.

    Back to carving my Colonial

I had to take a break from carving this fancy curly maple. You need alot of hand strength to keep yourself from slipping on this grain or maybe I'm just weak. As I mentioned I have no carving experience and my first kit build. I made it thru the kit build OK put this carving is the real test...

    Triple 7 and Pyrodex ?

Hello toot, I appreciate your 2 responses but I don't quite understand your meaning. 7 fires & explosions & catastrophic failures. If you mean this plant has had these happen then I'd say they seriously have some safety issues and needed to be shut down years ago. Hard to make a profit with...

    Triple 7 and Pyrodex ?

I can't understand why Hodgen would abandon the block powder industry. I can see rebuilding the plant would be costly but the demands are high and the industry very strong. Crap! Get those scientists to formulate a replacement with there existing 20 different kinds of gun powder. My goodness...

    Jump in (the shallow end)

Handsome piece of wood and you did a bang up job on fitting the barrel and brass. I had a hard time on fitting the tang and ramrod inlet brass. Lots of careful trimming and black spotter marks. Congrats on a nice build.............. Amen on that Sidney. About 20 years back I had an old great...

What barrel browning did you use? I need to order some.

    Jump in (the shallow end)

Sidney I totally agree with you and that is very sound advise. Don't bit off more than you can chew and it could cause you more frustration. But I don't think this applies here. I can relate to this person because it sounds like me. I've always loved these flintlocks and would love to build...

    Jump in (the shallow end)

The Kibler kit works out best for us elderly folks. Not much gouging out to make the parts fit so actually it's perfect. I've been learning alot about carving on my extra curly maple. "It's doesn't like to be carved on" so you'll need to remember to work with sharp tools, small & shallow cuts...

    Kibler Colonial Rifle Build

Travis186, did you use Kiblers iron nitrate and what color Forge stain did you use? Maple or Honey Maple? Beautiful tiger strips and I also ordered mine without a patchbox.
