Thank you! Feel free to borrow the holster idea. That was the best solution I could think of. Its working well so far.

.56 Smoothbore Shot Patterning and Bare Ball

That's a spruce grouse. Curious, why do people kick leaves over them? They're delicious.

    A Day With The Crocketts

Thank you. I didn't mean to give the impression that it was flying. When I said I jumped it, the grouse was bedded and hidden but showed itself when I approached. I'm sure it was about to fly when I shot. Thank you both!

do any of you hunt with your black powder cap-and-ball revolvers?

Again, not a cap and ball revolver but I used a cap and ball to take this grouse. The gun is a .32 cal Crockett pistol.

    A Day With The Crocketts

Usually when I hunt small game with a patched round ball I use my .54 or .58 caliber guns with a light powder charge. Yesterday I realized it had been years since I took out my .32 caliber Crockett rifle. I decided to take it on today's grouse/snowshoe hare hunt and brought along my Crockett...

do any of you hunt with your black powder cap-and-ball revolvers?

Not a cap and ball revolver but I've hunted with a cap and ball using a handgun. I use a .54 cal Lyman Plains Pistol I built from a kit. I use a .530 ball, .018 patch lubed with either Bumblin'Bear Grease or Trappers Pure Mink Oil and 25gr of 3F Goex. Here's a link to a post I did here in 2016...

    .56 Smoothbore Grouse Hunt

Thank you! I did the same pose when I hiked up there the previous week using the camera's self timer. My son and I were in the same area that day so he wanted to do the Jeremiah Johnson tribute pose too. :thumb: Here they are together.

    Shotgun Wad Management

Thank you! That was for my .62 cal. I recently did the same setup with my .56 cal and its working well. Even with the thinner over shot card its keeping everything separated.

    .56 Smoothbore Grouse Hunt

Thanks everyone! I filmed my son "unloading" my gun at the end of our hunt yesterday. He sent me these stills from the video today. Its surprising how much flash there is at the nipple on a percussion gun.
