    Critter cameras

My unmentionable digital cell cameras are Tacticam and they work great. I think I paid about 85 bucks each, plus memory cards and batteries (12 AA Lithium) and 10 bucks per month per cam to get the pics to my phone within a few minutes of them being taken. High res pics are on the camera...

    Rules and definitions

There is an ignore feature you can use to ignore specific members, should you care to use it. I do, I don't even have to skip over the pontifications, they don't even show up.

    Moravian inspired build

Go ahead and bump it to 6, I am following this thread and enjoying it a lot.

    Back again

Cheap mills are generally worth a lot less than what you pay for them, the primary reason is spindle and spindle bearing diameter. A lot of the import cheap mills use a drill press spindle, add one more bearing and call it a mill. The spindle is small, the bearings are small, and you have a...

    Router

Notice that all these are being done in blanks, the ones guys are talking about. There is a LOT of wood left to support the cut in a blank.

    Anyonwill someone call

The more time they spend on the phone the less time they spend working on your order and mine, it isn't a big company with dozens of people I don't think, and I appreciate talking to someone that can help me rather than someone that just answers the phone and is no help other than that. The...

    Barrel inletting

Do it by hand, in a piece of soft wood first to learn, it isn't that hard to do. Follow the inletting black down and it will be done very well. If you can route a channel straight and level without blowing up the forend on a pre-carve go for it, but no way no how would I go closer than maybe...

    darken incsied carving?

The end grain exposed by the cut will take more stain and get darker in the normal process. Nothing is done differently when building 'as new'. Aging or antiquing is another story and one I am not qualified to speak to.

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

No, but I will, when I figure out how I am going to make the locking rack to put it on and get time to make it.

    Santa Fe hawken stock re-finish

It all kinda ran together before with the brown barrel and brown stock, I see why you wanted to refinish it, looks better now.

    Knob Mountain, Chambers maybe.

    Bore question

Agree hard to say from the pic, but the last one I bought I wish the bore looked that good and it shoots great. Doesn't cut patches either. It is a complete pain to load and shoot dirty like nearly impossible to load the 4th or 5th with the ramrod, but wipe it between shots and it loads easy...

    Laminated stock blank?

I don't care for the weight increase you get with a laminated stock over solid wood, I do appreciate the stability you gain over wood in a modern centerfire but the weight and the coldness of laminate keep me looking at synthetics and carbon in particular for those. Laminates are also quite...

    Permalyn finish question

How long are you guys steel wooling it letting it cure/harden before you hit it with the steel wool? Steel wool between coats looks like it's been steel wool'd, not a fan of that being the final finish at all, that's why I ask.

    Very slick, thanks for posting!

    chisels....lesson learned.

Most wood working stores are staffed by old farts, a call to the one 100 miles away would probably get someone to put hands on them and set them behind the counter with your name on them if they actually have them. Some of the old farts actually know how to use the tools too, and can help you...

    Patch Bottomed Wide Flat Nose

Yes, I suspect it has to do with bullet length, twist rates and stability and requirement for the patch to be perfectly centered and of perfect size to be used. That's a guess though. I have shot WFN hard cast bullets hunting with unmentionable handguns and they are real deal game thumpers...

Mulling over a Couple of Possible Projects

Sorry if that sounded condescending, I didn't mean it that way, so I will expand a little. I meant that inletting a lock is easier than fixing an improper lock location. It seems like more work to inlet the lock but in actuality it will probably be less work and faster to completion. I am one...
