    Assemble then finish?

It sure saves a lot of headache scraping finish out of inlets and things like that if the things that stay in the rifle are in the rifle when it gets finished. Inlays, escutcheons, etc. If you see an issue doing the finish it's not hard to correct and finish/refinish.

    Lock Maintenance.............

The vast majority of lock "tuning" you will read about is just finishing the lock, work that could or should have been done when it was made, flattening contact areas and fitting all the parts to work together. There are some posts where smart guys talk about matching spring pressures and things...

    Wall mounted rifle display

Damn fine display, I like that a lot!

    Why Patch -Boxes &

Put the spur where it fits you? I like them when they fit, I am irritated when they don't, moved one and like it much more after but it's not a deal breaker for me. I like having a patchbox that fits the rifle, keep flints and leather etc in it.

    Drilling for pins

I've done both freehand and used the jig on a drill press with the sharpened pin under and drill point matched to it. The jig is a better way unless you are someone that is really good with hand tools, can see level and square, etc. With the jig it is EASY to make point A come out at point B...

Also in Tomball, welcome! Where are you shooting? Getting harder (longer drives) to shoot around here.

    protecting bare steel

The level of polish also makes a HUGE difference. Take a couple parts, polish one really well with 320-400 maybe even 600 and another (better yet the other end of the same piece) and polish it to 1200-2000 and put it out in the weather with nothing on them. You will see a massive difference in...

The Items of Faith. The Dogma of Muzzleloading.com

Me too, the ignore feature helps block out some of the bloviating that happens. Even something as simple as using drill rod instead of a nail for thimbles winds some of them up. It was funny, gets old though so I have blocked most of them.

    Moravian inspired build

Looking good Jack, I am a bit jealous of your situation having a really good builder to go to, I am glad to see you are able to do that.

    Tungsten Powder

Tin will alloy with the lead, similar melting points and the two become one aka alloy. Good casters are always stirring and skimming but not to prevent anything from separating other than the dross. I don't see barrel wear being a big deal, the patch will take care of that.

    Tungsten Powder

Sintered actually might work great, you can sinter to frangible or solid depending on what you want to do.

    Tungsten Powder

Don't know, never tried it, but I think you'll have to figure out how to alloy it so that it's distributed evenly and don't know for sure but I am pretty sure this isn't possible? I know for a fact small pieces of carbide will settle in the bottom of a steel casting, so I assume tungsten will...

Question on Tannic Acid + Iron Nitrate - Sanding back after application

You can do it dry but wet with finish is more what it will look like as Martin said. Also, like he said it fills the pores and I really dislike the look of a stock with open pores regardless of what species of wood it is. The permalyn sealer will go right through the dark surface from the acids...

    .36 rifle accuracy at distance

Velocity is your friend, reduce the time the wind has to work on moving your ball. You still have to know how much it moves but the only way to reduce it is to push the speed for a given diameter.

    Traumatized by bans and shortages

Similar to the original post I keep larger quantities of things than I would like because I am not going to get caught without again. For example, a few years ago I ran low on specific powder and bullets as there were none to buy, as they have come back (sporadically) I have purchased...

Can brass bore guides cause damage?

No one in industry uses the Mohs scale as related to metals, people that actually work with metal use rockwell and brinell scales for 99+% of the work, very very rarely you will see a vickers number. I've made my living working metals for over 28 years and never seen the mohs scale used for...

    Lock Maintenance.............

Percussion or flint? Percussion locks get wiped down after shooting, every few shooting sessions they will get hosed out with brake cleaner, taken apart and re-greased on the contact points and waxed inside and out for corrosion protection. With the amount of pressure on the springs I think...
