    Leaving a loaded powder horn?

I feel awful about this, I can't get through on the phone, I'll keep trying.

    Leaving a loaded powder horn?

I am so sorry LME, I was out of town when it arrived, my son put it away after he send me pictures of it, I should have followed through when I got home but I forgot. I PM'd as well, I can send electronic funds immediately or I can get a check out in the mail tomorrow. Let me know your...

    Leaving a loaded powder horn?

Verify that your horn is air tight (especially if you bought it vs made it yourself), and keep it fairly full. An air tight horn is every bit as good a storage method as the bottle it comes in.

    Swamped barrel on a .45

Swamped or tapered only for me, not going back to a straight barrel ever I don’t think.

    I made a rifle

The execution of that rifle is really really really nice! Superb work. If it were me building I think I would have thinned the wrist down a hair vertically and a couple hairs in width, maybe an eighth inch to a heavy eighth on the width. It’s hard to see even in your pics that are...

    Sight height

I understand, people not knowing what they don’t know, that’s why I said do the math, if more people knew there was a pretty simple way to get in the ballpark it wouldn’t be intimidating to do it, nor would it be frustrating and expensive. I’ve seen a few ranges where an impact short of the...

Sad day, Thinking of calling it quits

I am in a similar situation, lost my lease this spring when the price went up 5X what I was paying... Closest range to me is an hour, don't care if they like ML or not LOL, I pay my money and shoot my guns like everyone else. I am looking for a new lease though and you are right, prices have...

    Sight height

Sorry, I figured that the math is pretty simple, use a right triangle calculator if you need help.

    Sight height

Do the math, have the bore and sight line converge at 50-75 yards, depending on what the rifle is and at what distance your final zero will be at, and start there, if you go equal height front and rear you will be really low at 50-75 and have to file a lot off the front. The math will get you...

Opinions on a good solution for a better flintlock shotgun trigger pull

Expanding on what Mike said: Easy way to see if your full **** notch is at the right angle is to see if the tumbler is moving as the sear is released, if the tumbler moves either direction as the sear releases the angle is wrong. If it moves to the cocking direction it can make the trigger...

    Projectile of choice?

Roundball and a tight patch, however much 2F or 3F makes it shoot the tightest, doesn't matter what I am hunting or shooting this is what I am going to use.

    Fixing pin blowouts

Like Mike, I make sure the pins can go either way. Fix the holes and fix the pins while you have it apart.

Inherited Rifle - What is it?

This is very well stated, should be saved for future use when these questions come up in my opinion.

    Filing sights even with flats

To my eye, the dovetail HAS to be matched to the flats of the barrel if it is proud of the flats when installed, anything less is unfinished. If the dovetail is by chance smaller than the width of the flats it needs to be centered, anything less is unfinished. I also agree that staking can...

    long barrel vs shorter

Any velocity vs length discussion is anecdotal at best without a chronograph or penetration testing in a controlled medium.

    long barrel vs shorter

How well I can shoot a rifle offhand has more to do with balance than length, if your long barrel is a straight profile boat anchor with no swamp or taper it very well could be excessively heavy in the front hand and harder to shoot than a shorter straight profile barrel. If your long barrel...

    2F For Everything?

No 2f in everything for me, no way no how. I might be open to 3f in everything but as long as a pound of 4f lasts for priming 3-4 grains at a time I’m going to keep priming with 4f for the next 6000 shots at least. And after that I’ll almost certainly buy another couple pounds of 4f and use...

Laurel Mountain Forge rust browning with humidity box?

Good points by TCK, I do the same ^^^^ as he does with light coats and try not to rub over previously covered areas. If you do see the copper color don’t worry, 1-2 more applications done well will put you back on track and you’ll never see any deficiency in the finish.
