My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Looking good. Have you decided on how you will stain/finish the stock? I'm playing around with the dyes Dave suggested on a piece of scrap

Butt plates are tough for me!

I'm sure if you do enough of them you can anticipate better of what needs to come off and make it a bit of a quicker process, but slow and steady is the way to do it or else you will end up with a pistol grip... I use prussian blue, one tube will last a lifetime. Much quicker than the soot...

    Jim Chambers vs. TVM Kit

It was for me. I just weighed the 40 York at 8 lb and 6 oz. Heavier than I thought, doesn't handle like an +8lb gun.

    Jim Chambers vs. TVM Kit

Fowler is in 20 ga, so not rifled. Well, the Fowler isn't finished so hard to put it in the mix. I really like shooting the York, very well balanced and accurate enough to kill a squirrel now and then. I'm sure that fowler is gonna to give it a run and hopefully start killing me some turkeys...

    Jim Chambers vs. TVM Kit

For a visual perspective between the two, top is English Fowler, middle is York and bottom is the Edward Marshall. I haven't begun to take the stock down yet, so not really fair comparison, not to mention I'm no expert to say the least... The E.M. is considered a clunky gun and it is (mine...

    Jim Chambers vs. TVM Kit

I built a Chambers York in 40 caliber, beautiful gun. I think they make a 50 cal, but not a 54 in the York. I also built a Edward Marshall in 54 from Chambers and am working on an English Fowler. In my limited experience they are superb. I talked to Barbie Chambers this morning as a matter...

    Stock almost done

Nice work on the wire inlays of the elk.

    Wizzard, funny looking muzzleloader.

    Walnut Dust

You should probably have a lead level test done. And I would not be melting anymore lead...

    Chambers English Fowler

Got some work done yesterday before ringing in the new year! Got the butt plate drilled and installed. No gaps anywhere, so happy with that, because that steel is not very forgiving... I'll countersink a bit more and clean it up later. Drilled and tapped the tang screw, which is always a...

    Walnut Dust

Yeah, I started wearing one now. Interesting thing is I never really noticed, but I was cleaning my bench up today and my sinuses started acting up and my throat got scratchy. Don't know if it's in my head or I just started noticing because I was thinking about it... Mushka, you should get a...

My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Looks great! You could now throw some powder and shot down the barrel and make smoke!

    Walnut Dust

My brother mentioned to me that dust from walnut wood is an allergen and is a sensitizer, meaning the more exposed you are to it the more likely you will develop a reaction to it. Do you guys use any PPE or have a dust filter system?

CVA Kentucky Rifle Barrel Pin Diameter

I've used flagging wire in the past when in a pinch. It is slightly more flexible than the pin stock, but works. One of my rifles still as the ram rod thimbles attached with it. For some reason Chambers only sends two small pieces of pin stock in a kit and it's never been enough.

    Chambers English Fowler

Talked with Barbie today and she is sending me a 5/16" ram rod tip and pipes. Hopefully the pipes will work where already inletted, if not I will deal with the 3/8th's. She's also sending me another Fancy English Fowler side plate, because the one that came with the kit has vanished. Or...

    Chambers English Fowler

I'm going to have to contact Chambers then because the ram rod tip they sent at tapered end would just fit but the other end measures. 0.060 wider than the drilled hole. What's odd it the tip they sent for this fowler is larger than the tip that was sent for the 54 caliber and that one does not...

    Chambers English Fowler

Question for Dave. I've been following your staining of the Bess transformation and wondering your opinion on the approach that you recommend I take on this stock? It has its share of that purple dead color you reference. I do have a chunk for a patch box that I won't be installing to...

    Chambers English Fowler

I did check that when I removed the breech plug, plenty of room for touchhole. But I do have an issue with the ramrod hole. I took a ramrod from my 54 to check alignment of the channel and noticed that there was an issue. The thimbles measure .380" and the ramrod hole .300". For reference my...

Turning a Pedersoli Bess into a Dublin Castle Short Land Musket

Dave, That looks amazing! What a difference... I was looking at Brownell's and they do not have those products anymore. Do you know of anywhere else that may have similar quality products? I found this 5 pack on Amazon. Wood Dye - Aniline Dye 5 Color Kit - Wood Stain Kit - Household Wood...

    Chambers English Fowler

Got a few things completed so I guess I should post some pictures for those that are interested. Very easy process as stated above of getting the barrel to its intended home. Lock plate is nice and snug, good fit on the tang and where touchhole will be. Barrel is also pinned. Butt plate was...
