My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Thanks, that helps. Yes, that will be needed on mine as well, the ear holes are a bit oversized...

My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a question on your trigger plate install. Did you have to bend the plate to get it to fit the contour of the stock? Mine seems to need it or it may mess with the wrist. Also did you bend or file the "ears" to ease into the wrist?

    Need help

Just sanding tang inlet will probably not get you there unless you drop the entire barrel channel as well. Bend tang a bit and file what is left.

Turning a Pedersoli Bess into a Dublin Castle Short Land Musket

I am enjoying this topic. Especially the staining regiment. I will have a similar task when I get to staining an American Walnut stock in a month or so. I will be picking your brain Dave!

My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Very helpful. I just got going on the Chambers English Fowler and looked at the tail pipe yesterday and am now going to do same process as you did.

You could also file down the tang. Plenty there. I would both bend and file. I agree with pilot. If you can safely load and fire a muzzleloader you can complete this task...

Put the tang in a vise and bend it a little, might fit right in or maybe a little wood removed below.

    Chambers English Fowler

Well after difficulty removing breech plug I finally got moving on this project. I am amazed at how well done this pre-carved stock is. The other two that I've gotten from Chambers had a few minor issues, but there was also a lot needed as far as setting the barrel lower and back to get...

    Finishing Round Barrel

Thanks, I figured I was overthinking it. It will be cold blued and then whatever patina is created afterwards.

    Finishing Round Barrel

Well, I have another dumb round barrel question. Draw filing a barrel with flats I get. But what is the best way to finish/polish a round barrel? Sandpaper? Emery cloth? Also trying to figure out if I can file out the boogering I did with the vise!

Removing Breech Plug - Round Barrel Fowler

Thanks for all the ideas. I tried the 2x4 and a hole saw method with some chalk and I got her. Ridiculously tight and it has an R on the barrel, so... There's one character mark that might be too deep to buff out, but I can live with that...

Removing Breech Plug - Round Barrel Fowler

Well, I'm finally getting some energy after my bout with covid. So decided to start on the Chambers English Fowler and I'm stuck on step one. Removing the breech plug... Unlike the others I've build this on is round, which makes it a bit tougher. I've put in vise and it just spins, taper...

My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Glad you're pinning the guard! Almost to the fun part! You've probably already seen them but just in case, make sure you look over Dave Person's tutorials on fowlers before shaping.

My next build Jim Chambers PA Fowler

Looking good, gonna be a fine Fowler! I've been enjoying following along. I was hoping to start on my Chambers English Folwer but I've been battling this China virus and it has my brain on the funk and no energy. I tried to start but just couldn't. Hopefully this thing turns soon.

    Jim Chambers kits

    Should be able to now.

    Jim Chambers kits

I can highly recommend Chambers kits. I've built two and have a fowler patiently waiting for my attention. Prior to these I had zero experience with building a gun and really knew nothing about flintlocks and still know very little. A very large chunk of knowledge came from this website from...

    Gun-maker's Vise

WoodCraft usually has a sale in the fall on the WoodRiver vise. I paid $95 and free shipping on 11/22/19.

The flint that does not fail

I guess it works, but it's an eyesore... Reminds me of the guys who have their headlights secured with duct tape.

    Graf has 3f

Finally got my 3F today, was a bit worried as they have said since Thursday that "it's on the truck and out for delivery"! Probably the last Goex product I will be ordering...

    Last Powder for a While

I think about $20. Don't know for sure and don't really care at this point. When and IF supply loosens up I will be more concerned about such details.
