Here are my cap & ball revolvers. Want to add a 1861 Navy to the group.

    Chief’s Grade Indian Trade Gun

The first photo is of the lock from a gun recently sold by Track of the Wolf, which they stated was a North Star West. The second photo is the lock of my gun. The boar's head and horn engravings are nearly identical.

    Euroarms 1851 Navy Colt

Very nice! I prefer the look of the older Euroarms/Navy Arms era revolvers to the newer CNC produced ones. Call me odd.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Put the finishing touches on the rough cast serpent side plate for my next NW trade gun project. Amazing how crappy these look when you first get them; this one arrived bent into an L shape.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

The Happy Brown Toy Box on wheels dropped off another Pedersoli Trade Gun kit today. And ToW parts showed up, too. I’ve got a plan!

    The Muzzleloading Hunter

Excellent book, Mr. Hacker has been one of my favorite gun writers for decades. Honored to have a rifle he once owned.

So I found this box leaning against the garage...SMR Build

My advice (for what it's worth) is to acquire a copy of The Gunsmith of Grenville County-Building the American Longrifle by Peter A. Alexander. Chapters on carving and engraving. An absolute must-have book for any builder.

    Overpriced sellers

Now that I'm older and much more jaded, ahem, "experienced", I look at antique shops and gun shows as more like comic entertainment venues. "What manner of Baron Munchausenesque tales will be spun for my benefit today?", I ask myself, upon entering said domains. Unless the item is a toothed hen...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Ordered another Indian Trade Gun from Dixie and parts from TotW. Have a project in mind. Still haven't shot the last five MLs I've bought or built. I need therapy...........

    Pedersoli Trade Gun build

Not a problem there, did very well at this weekend's gun show selling some high dollar unmentionables I didn't use. So definitely have some "walkin' around money".

    Pedersoli Trade Gun build

Pretty much equally everywhere, wanted to keep a slim/balanced profile. Near future plans include purchasing another kit (once they're back in stock) and making a canoe/blanket trade gun, heavier on the vintage/antique look.

    Pedersoli Trade Gun build

I've used B-W Plum Brown for years with fine results. But for whatever reason, I could not get a good browned finish on the Pedersoli barrel. Figured 'Oh well (not those exact words!), I'll strip it and do it old school (controlled rust)'. Started stripping the barrel with Tetra Gun, hot water...

    Pedersoli Trade Gun build

The Pedersoli kit comes with a “protective“ bluing on the barrel (removed that and went with a “pewter/antique” finish which I like very much) the factory trigger guard was in the white (replaced it with a forged one from ToW and browned it). The lock has a case hardened finish, which I debated...

The serpent came from Track of the Wolf. And thank you for the kind words.

    Chief’s Grade Indian Trade Gun

At a small gun show last week, I did a little horse trading and came away with the Chief’s Grade Indian Trade Gun pictured. The bore is like a mirror, .62 caliber and the barrel is 41” long. The left hand lock shows the sitting fox, boar‘s head with horn and British stamp. It weighs 6.2 pounds...
