    Caliber and charge for coyotes

Had one in my sights, years back.. He came busting outta the brush while I was sitting on a ground blind deer hunting. just making all sorts of ruckus and running back and forth in a field. He sat down and started chewing at his butt o_O I was considering the shot when he jumped up and started...

    Caliber and charge for coyotes

My .36 Muley would do well for a Yote using 40-45 grns powder and the regularly patched .340 ball ( old Numrich Barrel ) Normal load for plinking is 30grns Respect Always Metalshaper/Jonathan

    Side hammer (side-slapper; mule-ear)

Just know from what I read in all of the Older BP books that Sam Fadala wrote/was a part of. He was a big Storey fan I believe, Supposed to be really solid locks? never had the opportunity to handle one or shoot a gun that carried one.. Wish I did though ;) Respect Always Metalshaper/Jonathan

    Breech plug timing

if you have a lathe.. turn a piece of bar stock that is just bigger than your ACF measurement.. then turn/ thread a journal and fit that to your barrel. then you can file in the flats, and make the tang.. Easy peasy as they say??? Respect Always Metalshaper/Jonathan

What do you as a builder use to finish a stock?

Tom, I've never burnished my stocks with a dowel.. I just use a heavy scrap of washed denim or light canvas and used that about a week or two after the last application of finish and it's initial rubbing back? just work the fabric around rubbing until its starts to take on a bit of friction...

Hard lead minie ball in Pedersoli Musketoon

Try grouping sets of 5 at 45, 50,55,60 grn charges ??< it may be a weirdo and like a 47 or 52 grns instead ? >put up a clean target each time Or tape over the old holes.. be clear as to what your groups are and ONLY vary one thing at a Time!!! don't switch lubes mid way, or brands of powder...

Hard lead minie ball in Pedersoli Musketoon

OK I looked back at the original post and realized he was using 42 grn powder in the testing.. Now I'm wondering if the harder skirt is not getting enough Umpff to expand things fully?? again, I'd try to go up <or down> in increments and find a charge that would work for the projectile your...

What do you as a builder use to finish a stock?

Never did have a "good" answer to this question about screw slots.

Builder friend of mine, makes his own screws and 'clocks' the screw heads on his final set of them. Think he said he goes through three full sets of screws to finish his guns?? I'm not that patient.. Respect Always Metalshaper/Jonathan

on maple, If you really want to see the flaws in your wood working?? mix a lil yellow food dye into a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and water.. ( yes I know the alcohol is mostly water ) wipe this onto your stock and let it dry. it will raise the whiskers on your stock and make your errors VERY...

What do you as a builder use to finish a stock?

I would have to look, but think it was a semi-gloss.. but with the hand rubbing and such, you can tailor it to be what you want. If you know what your doing, a french polish is possible?? I just follow the directions and use lots of rubbing in with the hands and clean, lint free cotton cloth to...
