    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Interesting. Lanolin has many great uses. I think I have heard of it being used in bullet lube recipes. What is the name of that product? Ballistol is a German product, and looking at their site there appears to be only one distributor in Canada. He is in Toronto. There are 3...

What to Read during Social Isolation?

Cornwell's books are all great (well I haven't read the Sharp's series so...) He really does his homework with historical research, and even the appendix are worth reading. I have been taking some time to reread Lord of the Rings. If you haven't read Game of Thrones series by G RR Martin...

    Primitive biathalons

Waking up this thread because it sounds like a blast! I have never done one but watching the modern version in the Olympics is pretty interesting. I would love to give it a try. Because of the virus issues there may not be many shoots this summer, but we can hope for winter.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Ya, the world is what it is sometimes. And I see far to many wonder cleaners at the small gun shops now, and less and less tried and true. Guess it goes along with everyone and their dogs being more into Tacticool ARs now.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Yes, that Walmart price beats my Amazon price finds, even with prime. If I can't find it local, I will Walmart it. I just like to buy from local / small guys when I can.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

I couldn't find it with free shipping, but I only looked quickly before heading here to see what y'all's thoughts were on it. I am new here and to BP, so I have been running off rumor and assumptions for my first 100 shots.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Looking into it a bit more I found this..... Maybe 3 in 1 is decent protection after all.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

I believe that. 3 in 1 is light stuff with low viscosity. Ballistol is fairy thick (in comparison) so would slow down the lock. Now let’s take it to the extreme, cosmoline! The stuff is great protectant, but I woul not advise using it as a lock lube. Then again, maybe it does have a place...

    Powder gourds?

Plant in spring, harvest in fall I think. Was supposed to germinate them 4-6 weeks before last frost (which was last week), and 130 weeks to mature. I am not going to invest much energy into these guys. Instead I am going to put them into a fairly wild part of the yard and allow them to...

How tough would a 495 ball be to load in my 50cal T/C Hawken

Well, thanks for your drifting response because it brings up other topics. It brings up the point about differences with twist rates and max effective range with patch and ball.

    Traditions Kentucky Rifle Kit-Sights

I am having a similar problem, and thinking about a similar solution (new rear sight on a Traditions). My question is, why not file the sight base down, instead of enlarging the barrel dovetail?

    Powder gourds?

Because of this thread I picked up some bird house gourd seeds. If i get them to grow, I am willing to send out extra gourds for just the postage.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Ok, looks like I will be ordering a few more cans, at least for now. Maybe I will switch to something else later, but untill I really look into other options, I guess if it is good enough for the Germans, it is good enough for me.

How tough would a 495 ball be to load in my 50cal T/C Hawken

Listening in on this. Would you get better rifling engagement with the 495 ball vs the 490? I always use a range rod at the range.... I was told that is the best way. For a while, I didn't even keep my wood rod in the gun.

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

Awesome! I will try that. I like that it is water soluble; what is the ingredient(s) that allow for that?

who all uses peeps on their percussion guns.

Has anyone tried this model? Available through www.muzzleloaderbuilderssupply.com. I have never bought anything from them, and please don’t consider this a plug for them. I am just wondering, because I am thinking of getting one. See it at ...

    Ballistol as a Lubricant

New here and new to BP. I just ran a serch here for Ballistol because I am nearly out, and the stuff is hard to find. Good to know that there are other, maybe better, alternatives.
