    Making my own flints

I am pretty much in the middle of the Marcellus Shale Formation. Lots of shale, so much that it looks like I have to do raised garden beds because digging requires a pickaxe. I will start bringing a hammer with me on my hikes though. Where in Michigan are you? I just moved down here from...

    Making my own flints

I just checked the Geo survey map of WV, and it looks like I will not be finding any wild flint around here.

    Making my own flints

I just ordered 12 from Log Cabin, but I am interested in making my own someday. Where in PA are you? I am about an hour south of Pittsburgh. I don’t know if we have better flint here.

    Traditions quality

I have a Traditions Pennsylvania style rifle, recent manufacture. It has a few minor fit and finish issues, but is mechanically reliable. I do have my issues with it in terms of general design, but it works. I am new to muzzleloading, so I put any accuracy issues on my own shoulders. We...

5 big fox squirrels with my crockett .32 this morning,

Awesome job. I've got one of those Crockets but haven't taken it out for anything other than paper yet, and that only once. It is really the significant other's gun, so I don't take it to the range if I am alone. I got it for them thinking that they would come hunting with me, bit I am...

Morgantown, or near enough. Just moved here from Michigan.

    Black powder

I bought the last of what 1 shop had, I am going to hunt up other local-ish supplies. I just moved here, so I don't really know what is available or where. The one shop I bought out was not a blackpowder shop. I don't think they had a single traditional muzzleloader there.

    Black powder

Ran some quick maths. It looks like I need to order 7 lbs of the powder from Graf before it comes out ahead of what I paid locally. (6.78 was the break even number) That and I short my local blackpowder economy, making it appear that there is no local market.

New here and green to BP

I just read the “How to shoot a flintlock” in the information thread! I have been packing my ball hard on my powder. I just figured that; 1 you don’t want any air gap or you will have a bomb, and 2 that you wanted to confine the explosion as much as possible for maximum effect. Light off a...

New here and green to BP

The 32 is a Percussion, my flint is a 50. But yes that was one of the ides for the 32, small game rifle. I am looking for a 32 flint kit build, or something of the like maybe.
