    Hello from the Oregon coast.

Hello from far northern Ca. We’ll be having 5 Rhondys in the next 7 weeks. All within a few hours of driving. Such a hard way to go. Doc,

    Lets talk firestarting

I’m very surprised at what I’m not hearing, haven’t seen anyone mention fire start at the Rhondys. Some of the Rhondys out west give a point on the rifle trail walk for fire start. Allowed; your flint and steel char and a nest, must have flame within 30 seconds. Using BP or such would disqualify...

If You Could Design Your Own Shooting Range...

Mostly I only had over a few ML friends. But being a NRA instructor and range officer I did some instruction mostly for women and kids. Always done one on one. The money I earned from that paid for the NRA insurance on our range. It was a win win. Doc,

If You Could Design Your Own Shooting Range...

Purchased 41 acres in the 80s. My next door neighbor had 18,000 acres. Set up a bench rest at 50 and 100 yards for smokeless. At the 50 yard position we had steel targets for ML pistol and rifle from 30 to long gongs at 100 and 150. At the 50 my wife and I also had an oscillating auto clay...

    Range Rod advice

Used a wooden rod for all of my loading for a few years, until a rod broke and went through a shooting partners hand. Went to Delron and have stayed there ever since. On the back end of the rod I double pinned a 10-32 and made a handle if/when needed. Put a 8-32 and a 10-32 on it to possibly...

    New Flintlock Need FFFFg powder

I will agree with you there’s actually a very very small difference in ignition time between 4f and 3f. On the mental side yes there is a big difference. When a person thinks he has better equipment, or knows he does, his confidence goes up. When a person has confidence he’ll hit the target the...

    New Flintlock Need FFFFg powder

Do I have a slow-mo of this, no but I will say that at the world championships where even factory teams are entered 4f as far as we could find out was used in the pan exclusively. I am absolutely sure they had slow-mo readily available to find out the best and fastest ignition for their locks. Doc,

    New Flintlock Need FFFFg powder

It’s true many use 2f or 3f in their pan. It actually is more historically correct in as much in the early times that’s all they had. Some will not notice a very small hang fire but it will affect their scores and shooting. If you’re serious about shooting and want to be as good a shot as you...

    WANTED Barrels

Have a TC 50 I purchased used in the 80s had a nice tight bore with a .490 and a .015 patch. Over the years a .495 and .015 was loose called up “The Gun Works” in Springfield Or ordered a drop-in 1/66 with the length and sights I wanted installed. Gun came home and was truly a drop- in and shot...

    Whole Patches & Shredded Patches

Joann’s ticking and /or drill has a nice tight weave but unfortunately it comes in one thickness, Bridgers Best a pre-cut patch also has a tight weave and comes in various thickness from .005 to .020. It’s a thought if you would like to try a different thickness . Doc,

    ML shotgun question

For shot I’m using the same size of Bismuth shot that I would have used in lead I purchased my Bismuth from Roto Metals. As for a Bismuth Round ball in a choked barrel no problem. The only change I would use in a choked barrel with shot is a smaller fiber wad. In my wife’s jug choked 12 she uses...

    ML shotgun question

Hanshi The main use of a 10ga is for water fowl. Using heavy shot the 10 will reach out further and harder than a 12. Many have the 10 in their safe just for that purpose. Doc,

  16. Doc

    OK, now what.....

Why are you “squishing” a 12 when you can purchase a 13ga wad. The patterns will be identical. Doc,
  17. Doc

    OK, now what.....

Another option for your 12 is to use 13ga. wads easy to put down. Personally for my Damascus doubles in 10 and 12 I use these two over powder and one over shot it patterns great.
  18. Doc

    OK, now what.....

Instead of 20 ga wads, purchase 21ga. wads. My wife’s 12 is jug choked so she uses 13ga wads. Patterns very well so apparently the wad can swell on ignition. Another option is to use these which I have used in my 20ga. I use two over powder and one over shot. They are very flexible and easy to...
