    SOLD Butter Knife Patch/Neck knife

Good to hear! I've been needing a more period correct knife and this one really caught my eye!

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

Well i got some of the design roughly drawn on with pencil. I feel like I may have gone too big with the name but it's sort of growing on me. That's the name of the character I plan to reenact and a thistle between the name since he is a transported Jacobite Scot. I am thinking a mountain range...

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

I ended up picking up a scriber. Seemed worth the low cost to save me time on constantly sharpening. I started to draw the design on the horn in pencil. Will show a picture of progress later today.

Yeah I think it will definitely help my chances of getting tags that I know almost no one in my area that hunts muzzleloader, since I think gun tags are allocated by county based on previous years harvest numbers (not 100% sure on that though).

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

Yeah we have quite a few of the books where I work so I'll definitely look at them!

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

I do have some remote artistic ability so I should probably be okay. I guess I was mainly just wondering if they exacto knives would even make a thick enough groove to be visible even when filled with ink it lead/graphite/charcoal. I think I probably will figure out what works pretty quickly...

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

Okay I can do that. I wondered if it needed to be a slightly wider tip than the knives I was talking about. Sounds like thats the case!

    Scrimshawing a Powder Horn

My powder horns shipped today and am planning to scrimshaw the larger non-priming horn. I was wondering about what knives people use to do this. I have some craft type exacto knives with the interchangeable blades. Would something like that work or do I need to look for something else?

Ah okay. That makes sense. I'll have to see what's available. I just finished my rifle so I already missed the lotteries. If there are firearms tags available over the counter I'll go with that but a ML tag is probably more likely.

Yeah I'm pretty sure in illinois the second shotgun season is shared with muzzle loaders and then there is a muzzleloader only season. No cartridge rifle hunting in illinois.

This thread makes it sound like you can use a muzzleloader during any of the firearms seasons as well. Is that the case? I was under the impression that you could only hunt with a muzzleloader during the second shotgun season and then the designated muzzleloader season.

    Am I crazy?

Alright that makes more sense. I was a little confused when it said to measure from "crook of arm to finger tip" on the website. It didn't seem right. Like I said I figured that a 14" LOP like he marked down was probably closer to being right. Especially after I couldn't find any rifles with a...

    Am I crazy?

Definitely! I am definitely a measure twice, or ten times and cut once kind of guy, and I'm definitely going to be getting some reading materials for this build. Tonight I decided to practice a little bit by making a toy long rifle for my cousins son for christmas. So that should give me a...

    Am I crazy?

Changed barrel length for aesthetics mainly. Plus I'm a big guy and sometimes have trouble shooting small guns comfortably. Like I said earlier my trigger pull 17.5-18" so in all my experience with centerfires so far the longer the gun the more comfortable I am firing it. I'm really leaning...

    Am I crazy?

Well the comfort issue is definitely a concern, but I'm thinking that since I haven't been exposed to any of the guns (firing them anyways) it will be all I am used to so it won't seem odd? I could be way off. Another thing that kind of made me wonder was the length of pull. When I measured...
