    Sandcasting Flintlock Parts

That is really really cool. I haven't heard of 3d scanning being accessible to consumers, but figured there might be something available out there. Great work!

    lead melting pots recommendation

For you guys that have used the small Lee melter, would a 58 round ball be too big for the small size? It says it holds 4 lbs... That is 100 balls but of course I won't be able to cast that many without refilling the pot

Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

I don't believe it. We We're all so obsessed with the old timey stuff that if you were alive back then I bet you'd be toting around a matchlock and griping about the newfangled flintlocks 😅

    Cow Elk Load

I agree with longcruise. There's no difference in toughness between bull and cow. Also, heck yes let's start seeing some 10 shot groups and see what size group a person ends up with! It is very ere opening with modern bolt rifles, even letting the barrel cool between shots and all that jazz...

    Rifles of the Fur Trade

Is this still in the works and can you give an estimated date on when we might see it in a journal? I need to be on the lookout as I'm immensely excited to read all you've discovered on this rifle.

Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

Would you be more excited to purchase a Kibker Hawken kit that is representative of the later time period like the Bridger and Carson rifles, or something earlier like the "ETC" Hawken, "Peterson" Hawken, or "Atchison" Hawken? I hope that Jim's design is unique, just the way the colonial and...

    JoAnns #40 cotton drill

As @SDSmlf said, it matters how the material is measured. My method is to use my Hornady dial calipers, mostly because that's what I have available, and I squeeze with thumb and pointer finger about as hard as I can. I haven't measured the drill cloth, but I measure the 12oz denim (the sew...

    JoAnns #40 cotton drill

That I'd what I've heard and make sure my material is 100% cotton Not sure. 10oz denim at Joann's used to be available in 100% cotton. Now the only available is stretch with a % of synthetic. I haven't used that stuff

    JoAnns #40 cotton drill

How do you measure the thickness of your fabric? And pre or post washing? This one is no longer available in US in the 100% cotton type. They have 7oz and 12oz in cotton. The others are stretch denim and it include a % synthetic fabric

    Patch lube, spit or lube?

I know that some only use mink oil for hunting and shooting very little in practice, but I also know that some are able to shoot many many shots with it without wiping. I'd like to be able to do that so I can practice a lot with my hunting load

    Patch lube, spit or lube?

Hanshi, I use mink oil and the newer version of that hoppes BP cleaner. I have found that after a couple of shots with mink patches the ball will end up getting stuck trying to load it, whereas the hoppes seems to wet the fouling enough that it actually cleans it as I load the ball as I'm...

    Rust Bluing setup

I haven't rust blues a barrel yet. However, I plan to use the method below because it apparently works very well. Incredible builders like @davec2 can vouch for it. Use a capped PVC pipe as longer than the barrel. Put the browned barrel in the pipe. Pour boiling water into the pipe. It...

    T/C Maxi Balls and Elk

Thanks. I was thinking of whether or not the molten nose lead would bond to a solidified and cooled body or if you would have to do a quick double pot pour.

How does one cast a bullet like that?

    Charcoal

To make good charcoal. As someone pointed out, keep the retort tempt under 600F. Kill the cook when the offgassing just starts to dwindle a bit. All wood pieces should be as uniform in size as possible. Dry the wood before charring. Remove all bark, bark seams, knots, pith, etc. Don't let dirt...
