    Hudson Valley Fowlers Builders Nook

HVF's require an 8' bed. That needs to be factored into the build cost of the gun :) And I'm tickled that you got orders for some too. "Guess strolling around with one, lit the lightbulb for a few guys. Very cool.

    Hudson Valley Fowlers Builders Nook

If I was the little 5'7" guy in native kit walking around with a 6'4" HVF and looking like an *****, then yeah, that was me. That also would have been 20+ years ago. As a disclaimer, I was only carrying that because I'd brought it there to show L. Day and his boys since they were building the...

Different schools altogether IMHO. 'Best way to determine for yourself is to avail yourself of Grinslade's book for the club butts and HVF's, and Colonial Frontier Guns by TM Hamilton for a look at the Buccaneers.

Amen to that. And I picked the easy style for this one, raised panels w/ incised line details. I'm relatively certain, as best I can recall, that it was more than an afternoon's process (sulk, sigh, and sob).

    Hudson Valley Fowlers Builders Nook

Due to my abbreviating Hudson Valley Fowler down to HVFowler this thread wouldn't show up when doing a search on these guns. Merriweather just straightened that out for me/us so a big thank you to our admin. This thread is for anyone who wants to contribute or avail themselves of the content...

I have no counter argument (chuckle). But I'm equally happy in the shop. 'Suspect I'm not alone on that.

That's both cryptic and ominous, maybe you could elaborate. Assuming you mean me and not Mike (?)

'Always on the lookout for such things. What castings do you have? I'd like to see. Feel free to do a little post hijacking here if you have pics. It could help others out too at some point. Cheers.....

Well, ten thousand 'thank you's'. Make sure you put it up when you do it. A tall b/plate, a long comb, short wrist, and you're on your way!

This is my latest 'bun in the oven'. Almost done. If I get the pics up ok, the pic with the paper tracing and the fowler shows the tracing of one of two originals that I'd gotten 25 yrs. ago at The Senate House Museum (Kingston, NY).

    Relief carving

Crow, I make my own templates with plain old graph paper. Draw a centerline to work from, rough sketch what you think you want, and when you're happy with your basic design you can easily tweak it to 'symetrical', if that's what you want, just by counting lines off your center or up and down...

Here in NY that would no doubt be construed as a 'short barreled rifle'.

    The Rifle Shoppe

The 'series 509' references TRS's parts for that particular rifle. All of their part sets have a series #. This rifle is a very, very involved build. Thanks for the feedback, please keep me posted. I have pics of them both somewhere around here so I'll see if I can find them and put them...
