    Save The Drum And Nipple

I won't say you can't see the join - joke for older UK members! but you do have to look hard. Even if it were possible to undo the change I would not want to spoil such a neat job. The original maker was Nock of London

    Anybody guess what this is?

No rammer on the early ones, use your thumb! Later models had rammers. Can we believe the "CSA"? It is a wonderful bonus if OK. Besides the number with the R suffix, there should be a second number stamped at various points this is the assembly number which will be of interest to people...

What would the Rev Forsyth think?

He was driven to improve the ignition because he felt a flintlock warned the game that a shot was coming. Presumably that is still the case.

What would the Rev Forsyth think?

An idle thought. What would Alexander Forsyth make of people still hunting with flintlocks 200+ years after he invented his scent bottle lock to overcome their shortcomings?

    Grice blunderbuss

I have been pleased to see the blunderbuss still has fans. What I like about this one is that it is obviously a working piece but there is some restrained engraving to stop it being too plain. The lock is engraved Grice. I have to resist the temptation to polish all that lovely brass.

    The most elegant 51 Navy?

In my opinion, this is the most elegant of the 51 Navies, the second model squareback. I have been encouraged to share, so here are a couple of pictures which I hope the forum will appreciate.

    Should I Buy a Colt’s Pocket 1849 .31?

My problem is I keep mine with an 1851 Navy, so by comparison, it always seems rather small. Luckily (?) I don't have a Walker to dwarf the Nayy. I always felt the 1849 looked out of place when used as a prop in CW period studio photographs.

    Hello from North Britain.

I have to own up, I would not dare put powder in my pieces. I would be mortified if I wrecked something that has survived so long. When my father acquired his London Navy in the 30s, he found it was still loaded. He put on fresh caps and unloaded it the quick way - down on the range. In...

    Hello from North Britain.

Hello from north of the border (with England). Lucky to have had a father who collected between the wars, could not afford to start now!

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

Many years ago I obtained an explosives licence to get some black powder. What I did not realise was I had to renew it. Result - stern letter from the local constabulary and quick disposal of remaining powder!
