    Scottish pistol

My all-steel pistols, both made for the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Highland Regiment, were produced by different makers They must have been made about the same time since the battalion was raised in 1759 and disbanded four years later. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to identify either...

    Hello from UK

I'm sorry, much as I love the NE of England (my wife is from Durham) it is not the north east of the UK - but then we get used to people ignoring Scotland.

    quit posting flintlock pictures!!

This is quite an interesting pistol. In 1759, the Knights of St John in Malta ordered various pieces from the French. When Malta fell to the French in the Napoleonic wars, the pistols were taken over by them and most were subsequently lost at the battle of the Nile. The maker was Girard.

    How orange is orange?

When I saw the question, my first thought was that's one for an Ulsterman!

    Loaded BP Revolver

Yes it is a spare mainspring. It does not seem to have a fitted place so it lives between the backstrap and the bullet compartment.

Don't forget the LeMat! Or the Webley Longspur.

    Loaded BP Revolver

This was still loaded in the 30's. Every shot fired.

    Determine coat of arms

I would say that is a viscount's coronet.

A tale of a Palmetto 1855 Sidehammer "Root" Revolver

I must confess the sidehammer has always been my least favourite Colt percussion revolver. It has been an eyeopener to see it has so many fans.

    Flint Knapping

I am remembering a story told to me more than sixty years ago about an old timer in Suffolk who would knap flints while you waited. He sourced the raw material (best black English flint) from a pit from under his pub and would then make whatever you wanted.

Keep feeding that wood and develop the patina. It will reward you.

Old Stuff, What Do You Have?

Oldest of my firearms I can date reliably are the all-steel pistols issued to the 2nd battalion Royal Highland Regiment. The battalion was raised in 1759 and disbanded in 1763. Oldest man-made objects are Egyptian relics ashabti etc.

    Another underhammer pistol

This is my underhammer pistol by Westwood (actually of Birmingham I understand). I feel it is quite an elegant design.

    A neat percussion conversion.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, but night is falling and to be honest, the days are not bright at the moment so rather than wait, I used artificial light. As Loyalist Dave noticed, there is a distinct lack of nipple. This is where we get into the arguments over restoration, original...

    A neat percussion conversion.

I have read that old brass (and this is over 220 years old) is unpredictable and I would not risk causing damage. Also, owning black powder is a nightmare in the UK, I had an explosives licence in the 70s but decided it was too much trouble to keep it going, it won't be any easier now. So no, I...
