    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

It is definitely one of the more popular muzzleloaders available at this point, the Pedersolis sell well and are widely available, though expensive (Pedersoli having a virtual monopoly). The Indian gun distributors added the short land (second model) Bess as a result of a lot of requests, and...

    India Barrel Failure

So I have a question for you. There are so many members here, including moderators, that have purchased these Indian guns and had success with them, and no barrel failures, what do you attribute that to?

    India Barrel Failure

What evidence do you have that it is not of sufficient quality? Unless the distributors are flat out lying about the specs on their websites then the quality of their barrel steel is fine. I don't think they are lying because a simple metallurgical test would get them sued for a false...

Which model of Indian musket did you own and from which distributor? What problems did you have with it other than general appearance?
  6. T

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

That is a good point, but the fact you could buy three of the Indian Muskets for the price of one Pedersoli. means the Pedersoli would have to last three times as long to break even.

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

But is "head and shoulders" equal to over a thousand dollars and over twice the price? Especially for something you plan to tote through the woods, use in reenactments stacked in camp and lay around in a hunting blind? Do you own one of the Indian guns, which one and from which distributor...

    India Barrel Failure

India is the second largest steel producer in the world, and I am sure like any other country they have varying levels of quality, but they do produce firearms of high quality, so they have high quality steel, and if the purveyors of said Indian rifles are not outright lying about the specs on...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

All good, I am in the same boat you are, looking. I am just looking for some justification for that extra grand. Investment/holding its value, being about all I can come up with, and like I said, I plan to use it, and not worry about beauty. Evan having the money I don't cherish the idea of...

    India Barrel Failure

Perhaps the evidence does point that way, but it is not 100% conclusive, besides that's not the point. Do you really think that no salvaged vessel steel, no steel from any scrapped vessel hasn't ended up in a firearm? My guess i it has in the neighborhood of tons. Also, why would ship scrap...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

Agreed but over twice as much, to the tune of a grand? That's a lot of cash even these days. I just want something that is representative of the era, safe and reliable, that I don't have to feel bad about shooting and getting a ding here or there on it, and I am not in it to impress others.
  12. T

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

Why? They are safe, and reliable, and the consensus is the Pedersolis aren't historically accurate either, so why pay $1000 extra? If you had to make the choice of the Indian gun pr nothing, what would it be?

Minie sizing issue - help needed

The longer the projectile the faster the twist rate needs to be to stabilize it properly.
  14. T

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

I have bene looking too, somehow it is difficult to justify the price on something I want to use and won't be just a "safe queen" investment. The $1000 dollar difference between Pedersoli and the Indian guns, doesn't seem justifiable or practical

Minie sizing issue - help needed

They look much better, and it's a matter of if they have enough room for lube, and that you can tell by how soft the fouling is and if there is any leading. The proof is going to be in whether they shoot well or not. If they do, then nothing else matters. Remember that the reason for the...

    Pocket Remington issues.

OK so now I am really confused and am going tohave to go and watch the movie again. This website, which is known for its accuracy, is apparently inaccurate in two accounts, one calling The .31 Remington the "1858 Pocket" when I am thinking it is the 1863, and two, possibly not identifying it as...

    Pocket Remington issues.

The revolver was the 1863 Remington pocket, and the movie was Pale Rider. May have been using movie prop conversion cylinders, but I am not sure they weren't supposed to be representing regular C&B loaded extra cylinders.

Minie sizing issue - help needed

Before I did that I would look around and try to find a smaller diameter Minie or a mold making smaller diameter ones.' You could check Lee they have sizing kits for around $25 but they jump from .460 to 501 https://leeprecision.com/classic-bullet-sizing-kit They do offer custom dies etc. and...
