    Another new tool , Anvil

I am so lucky, My wife encourages me to get into blacksmithing. So far I've got a 93 lb Hay Bedden, a 20 ton HF air over hydraulic press. She suggested that because of my infirmities she doesn't want me to hurt myself. I built my own brake drum forge, she bought me a leg vice, and a Mr. Volcano...

Question about shooting round ball in smooth bore

I prefer a paper cartridge. I would use .575 ball in the cartridge. It would do minute of a deer at 50 yds. with 70 gr. of 3f.

    Squirrel Dogs

I've had Mt. Curs, smartest dogs I ever owned. They will watch your kids, your house, and you. The first one was a female that my wife gave me for Christmas. She was my Christmas present but she was my wife's dog, until I took my gun out of the closet. Then it was see you later MA, we're going...

Need a smith to solder a rib on my flinter

i would recommend Brownell's HiForce44 solder. I comes in a coiled ribbon and can be melted with a propane torch. It results in an extremely strong bond.

    My thimble's screw wouldn't hold. i soldered it. how'd i do?

I bought a roll of Brownell's HI Force 44 and never looked back. It melts with a propane torch, not excessively hot. I outline the area with a common #2 pencil to contain the solder. the solder doesn't stick to the graphite.

    Fusil ,,tulle,,fowler

I feel that you should get and use whatever makes you happy. If you are not into reenacting you only have to make yourself happy. I have taken the parts from my early VA fowler and reinstalling them in a Tulle stock. I prefer the looks of the Tulle. At my age and physical condition the only...

May need to pull breech plug.

I usually use 2 blocks of wood chiseled out to the barrel profile. my vise weighs about 40 to 50 pounds. I have a monkey wrench that is about 16 inches long. Never found anything that I couldn't take apart.

    2f prime in the pan

I bought a can of 1f To see how it would pattern in my 20 ga. It tightened up my patterns and still had enough power to puncture a tuna can at 25 yds. I also primed with it, and I could not notice any difference in ignition speed. But then again I am old and most of my body functions have...
