What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Tried to fit the new taller rear sight to the Woodsrunner. Didn't do so well and it was loose. I have another to try but thought I'd blacken it first just to try the Jax. Luckily I have a spare rear sight to work on. I'm not too good at this so I may go thru a few. I wanted to file from...

    Fitting the Rear sight

TDM.... Perfect. It's a new Kibler taller rear. No casting or machine marks on the base. But I did notice that tiny angled tab on the rear as seen in the photo. I believe that is there to lock the base into the dovetail and I did not want to take it off. SO, I'm taking you advise and will...

    Kibler?

GREG ... They ARE there. And all are working hard. My most recent order placed online was acknowledged yesterday. And shipped. NOTE :::: There has been talk on both sides about coming out with a NEW KIT. Now, you gotta know that takes a lot of work not the least of which is the...

    Fitting the Rear sight

Here is the sight. Might be too close for the camera. But I'm trying to show the small step on the bottom of the rear sight. It looks like it's a locking tab to seat against the rear of the dovetail. I'm wondering, to make the sight fit properly, do I file the front of the sight base so...

    Fitting the Rear sight

It seems natural that the rear sight is longer than the dovetail. Also, it has a small tab on the back end to lock into the rear of the dovetail. For it to fit tight and proper should it be filed from the front ? Or file the locking tab on the rear or the sight ?

    WANTED What’s available left handed

For what it's worth .... you could check out Contemporary Longrifle's site. Besides rifles, they offer many other items by makers. Not a place to look for T/C modern.

Ever let one go That you Should have Kept? (p1853 Enfield)

Yes, me too. Several times. Had. to let go of a beautifully Allan Sandy Lancaster flint in .50 with a couple inlays and Allan's artful carving. Love to buy it back. Circumstances of life.

Not much to go on. I use Lexall to clean bags and straps, Mocs. Softens and makes stuff flexible.

    T/C Hawken ball and patch

First time I tried out my Pa. Hunter I used this - .490 - .018 blue ticking - and mink tallow lube. Took a mallet to get it seated. Switched to .010 ticking and I could load better. T/C are kinda known to have tight bores. First time out with my Kibler .50 I used a 490 - red ticking at...

    Questions on Kibler Rifles

Mr. Gray, my avatar is my Woodsrunner. I am right handed in most things. Except Bamboo fly rods . This is the first long rifle I have picked up that I can "naturally" mount and look right down at the sights. Slightly butt heavy that helps the balance. The wide butt feels fine in the...

Robert don't forget to show us the finished rifle when you're done. Love the way it's coming along. I want to do mine in iron nitrate followed by T & T. Don't know if a coat of permalyn should be used after the iron nitrate tho.

    Best common household lubricant?

Yup, there's all kinds. David and Tree make good points. I like David's idea, never thought of that but it makes sense.

    Range Rods -

My stuff is pretty simple. Old wood rod with a couple metal prigs to maybe pull out a wet patch the day after cleaning. O, I had to try the new one from Kibler. I like the nylon bore guide. Prior, I have used the Creedmore from Track for many years. Have an older one that's shorter but...

    Proper rear sight

I agree with LongWalker... I found the rear sight that came with my Woodsrunner was too low. The front sight is fine. And I will leave it as is for now. Not even to polish it. I may look a tad "rough" but it does not reflect a ton of light. I will replace the rear sight with one from...

Can you build one for me ?

This is for all those who have expressed interest. Especially Dale and Nav. I know there are others involved, and that Dale knows who they are. But I don't. :ThankYou: I just wanted to say thank you ALL very much. And here is the result of your outreach. I finally got a chance to get...
