  1. Critter Getter

I want to move on and experience flintlocks. Any suggestions as to a starter flintlock?

I bought a Pedersoli Frontier as my first flintlock. It is reliable and didn’t break the bank to purchase compared to the customs. Greg

    Pedersoli Frontier Set Trigger Question

I remember 40 years ago or so when i was in your shoes.........welcome to black powder world. I love the set triggers and use them on all of my rifles, hunting or target shooting. Greg

Flintlock Rifle for plinking for fun

No reason at all...........54 or 58 will do the deer hunting job just fine plus if you would want to go after elk and other larger game you will appreciate the larger calibers. Greg

    New guy with questions.

Check Track of the Wolf for supplies including flints. Also I think there is a thread that is a sticky at the top of this flintlock section called Flintlock Tips........good info there. Good luck. Greg

    New Muzzle loader

I personally like the look of the Lyman GPR but the Trade Rifles stock dimensions fit me better. I had to add a leather cheek pad on my GPR to bring my face high enough to line up the sights. Get what fits you best as both will be the same quality. Greg

    CLOSED CVA Squirrel Rifle

I have a CVA Squirrel Rifle I could let go of........32 cal. I don’t have a ramrod for it tho. I bought it used, shot it a few times and cleaned it up.........and put it away. I’m a little out of the loop and not too sure what it is worth or what they are going for tho.........Greg

Great plains trade rifle or used TC Renegade

A used TC Renegade was my first Muzzleloader back in the early 1980s. It was a good gun for the $100 I paid for it. I am picky about gun fit and the stock is a bit tall for me. I have a GPR and that stock is too low for my face. The TC Hawken and the Lyman Trade rifle both fit me very...

    Set triggers spooking game?

I have had deer spook from all kinds of unnatural noises but never from my set trigger and i always use them! Greg

First shot varies...what would you do?

This is interesting as my Hatfield that shoots extremely well always throws the first shot 4” left and then will clover leaf everything after that at 50 yards.......I always shot a fouling shot before competing. I will have to try a thicker patch or shimming with a piece of paper to see if that...

traditionalist - Are we Loosing the Battle

Here in Iowa deer hunting with a gun for the most part meant shotguns shooting slugs. Now we have a variety of centerfire cartridges that are legal and most Muzzleloaders are the new style........we are definitely headed the wrong direction here. Greg

    Tip Curtis

I just now read of Tips passing..............Tip was a man that I enjoyed conversing with. The last time I spoke with him at his shop a couple of years ago or so I walked out of there with a nice .32. I didn’t need it and still have not shot it but will cherish it in his honor. A good man, a...

    .45s?

I just remembered that my wife’s buck that she shot a few years back was taken with a TC Seneca .45 caliber and a maxi ball or maxi hunter........I can’t remember which. Spine shot dropped it in its tracks at 15 yards.........

    .45s?

Biggest thing I hunt is an Iowa Whitetail and my .45’s do a great job on them along with taking heads off squirrels and knocking the x’s out of the center of the paper targets. Really think the .45’s That shoot both prb and conicals great is a great all around gun!! Greg
