First Flintlock? Also, fixed bore on Lyman GPR Percussion

I have put together a TC Cherokee. Shot a couple of deer and a coyote with it and sold it to my buddy. I have a couple of TC Seneca rifles and a couple TC Hawkens all .45 and percussion. Out of those I prefer the TC Hawkens. I also have a Virginia Longrifle kit from Pecatonica that is a...

First Flintlock? Also, fixed bore on Lyman GPR Percussion

Since you asked for an opinion, and I’m sure you will get many here, I would get a .45 without a hesitation!! I do most of my hunting with one of my .45’s. Deer, squirrel, and coyote...........the most do all caliber out there, and I have most of them!! 😀. Easy on the shoulder and accurate as...

    Do I just have a “short-range” rifle?

I am going to follow this closely and see what works for you. My .50 Hatfield with a 1 in 66” twist is in the same boat. I have won or placed in most all events that I have shot with that rifle. At 50 yards it is scary accurate. At 100 yards I’m lucky to hit a paper plate! Has been that way...

    questions about Great Plains Signature

As far as I know Investarms had always been the manufacturer for Lyman guns as well as other companies. Of course I could be wrong! 😀 I have a Richland Arms Hawken that was made by Investarms as well. Greg

Shot the new to me 50 cal CVA Mountain rifle

4 or 5 years ago I found my Mountain Rifle in a pawn shop in Wisconsin. Took it home and loaded it with 60 grains bp, a .15 patch, and a .490 rb. Having never even fired it I took it squirrel hunting and was 2 for 2 with it. Took it deer hunting and took my deer with it. Never bothered trying...

CLOSED WTB: CVA Mountain Rifle Rear Sight

I really like that sight...........I wonder if that would happen to fit the dovetail on a Richland Arms ( Investarms ) Hawken? Anyone know? Greg

    Favorite squirrel rifle

I have shot all my squirrels with either any number of .45’s that I have or a .50 cal Hatfield. I have a .32 flinter from Tip Curtis that I bought a few years ago for squirrels but haven’t shot it yet. Also have a couple .36 that would do the job as well..........Greg

How Long Have You Been Hunting ...

For two year in the mid 1970’s Outdoor Life had our county (Adair County, Iowa) listed as the number 1 county in the USA for pheasants. They were thick and we could see 60 on a single rise at times. This year I think i found 4 on our farm for the whole season and was thrilled to death to have...

    Hatfield rifle

I have two......both .50 cal and both percussion..........the early ones were produced in St Joe, MO. by Ted Hatfield. Mine shoot incredibly well!! They both have a slow twist barrel so shooting prb is what i shoot with 60 grains of powder. They were made in both percussion and flintlock. If I...

How Long Have You Been Hunting ...

Started pheasant hunting at age 9. I’m 62 now so 53 years. A heart isn’t letting me walk quite like I used to so I gave up group hunting with my friends And hunt mostly by myself so I can stop more often and catch my breath. I do a whole lot of sitting in the woods gathering my thoughts with my...

Always kind of cracks me up when a 4 year old thread gets new life and guessing Smokey has now figured out his preference of which he prefers. Ha! It it does give all ya snow bounds warriors something to read and tal about! Greg
