Parts Kit Build By A Beginner(Running Thread)

First of all, hold off on the beer til you've put the tools down for the day. I like beer as much as any one, but it's surprising how little it takes to spoil your concentration. You're too young to complain about your eyes going, but it's a fact that it takes twice as much light,at age 40, to...

    Regarding DOM/Seamless Barrels...

I hear your frustration. A couple possible suggestions come to mind. 1. If you can pick up a used TC Hawken (or one of the other factory guns), you will have a complete set of parts to do a new build. Just need a hunk of wood for a stock. 2. Haunt the want-ads section of this forum for...

Just got a call from Rice Barrel Co.

Got my call yesterday. Jason had a question on a detail of how I wanted the breechplugs I supplied fitted. Nice fellow to work with & easy to talk to. Barrels should be shipped by end of this week. Paul

    fast ROT, ff vs fff?

I am in Canada too. If you live close enough to the border to drive across once in a while, you can order black from a US supplier & have it shipped to a US mail drop close to the border. You drive across, pick it up & bring it back. You'll have to pay duty, but the savings are fantastic...

    projectiles

Back in the late 60s I had the good fortune of being acquainted with a group of cannon builders. One cannon and a few morters were scaled to shoot quart oil cans full of concrete. Now that quart oil cans have faded from existance, I have no idea what they are using. At one shoot I attended...

    Don't Fit my TC Hawken

I had the same problem until I designed & built my own custom thumbhole for my TC hawken. However,it really messes up the traditional look of a sidelock. Changing the drop and height of the cheekpiece really do make a difference in shooting comfort. Paul

    Being 'pushed' to modern weapons

"If the crap hits the fan one day, Canada is where we are heading to." Don, We'd be happy to have you, but, as a US expatriot since '75, really, really do your homework first. Paul

    Cherry tree sap

I don't know if this the right place to post this, but I have an ornamental chokecherry tree that is dieing in my yard. It has a number of sap deposits,on the bark, that are drying hard and clear. Is this something that has a use in the traditional way? Unfortunately, the tree isn't even big...

    Non typical rifles

I've had two of those barrels on order, from Rice, for quite a while now, only in .58. Seems there are not enough on order to justify tooling up for them. The interesting part is I intend to use the same locks, but at least one will be a fullstock with the butt of the stock as described in my...

    reaming question

Keith, I do have a TC hawken barrel that would benefit with, at least, that procedure. More information would be definitly appreciated. Paul

    Non typical rifles

I am currently getting ready for a fly-in,self supported, moose hunting trip,so I don't have time to go through the process of learning to post pictures here. If someone who is comfortable posting pictures would like to post them for me, send me a private message with your email addy, & I'll...

    Tempered Ramrods??

A bull moose, in rut, spends a lot of time getting his own urine, and any cows urine he finds, all over himself. When I got close enough to get a whiff of the first one I shot, my thought was 'Damn, I have to field dress this thing now.' Paul

    Non typical rifles

So, would a TC hawken with a Green Mountain .50, 1-28" twist, restocked with a custom designed thumbhole stock in cherry fit this catagory? Paul

    Full stock 54

I did the same. The big difference is my TC hawken now has a custom designed thumbhole stock. Not correct in any manner normally accepted on this site, but it still is a sidelock. I've learned a lot hanging around here the last year, and the currant project is much the same, only as a fullstock...

    Bought the whole bolt

I didn't get a bolt, but I did pass by a garage sale-the day after- and picked up a free piece of ticking- 6 yards. Measured out at .018. Washed it & stashed on a shelf, waiting for that .58 Rice barrel I have on order. Paul

Best way to restore waterlogged stock?

Brownbear has given you the best advice, so far. As a professional furniture builder, I've had a good bit of experience drying wood. I hope you have good luck. I restocked my dad's 725, because I am about 6" taller then he was. If you have to go the re-stocking route, PM me and I can give you...

    TOW style Jaeger barrels

I spoke with the fine gentleman at Rice Barrels, last week, in regards to the TOW style Jaeger barrel I ordered in March. The word now is that I might get it in October. Maybe. The problem is, they are very busy and trying to catch up. Setting up machines for that barrel takes half a day, but...
