    Fusil Dechasse

Good choice for a gun! I bought a used one several years ago and I enjoy using it. I like the fact that it is a smoothbore and is period-correct for the 1700's and early 1800's. It shoots lead birdshot pretty well and is fun for shooting clay targets.

    T/C Renegade Hammer

I have the same gun, and it has the same half-**** position. I always thought that it was a bit close, but it's actually never been a problem. There is no reason to remove the cap or install one when the hammer is in "safe" position. When capping your gun, **** the hammer fully, install the...

    Is this repairable or restock.

When you say "stick", you mean STOCK, right? "Stick" sounds like you are talking about the ramrod.

Picture of recovered 54 cal. Round ball and patch from my first Flintlock doe

Thanks for the correction. I must have a Renegade! It's not stamped anywhere on the barrel, lock or butt plate. Good gun!

Picture of recovered 54 cal. Round ball and patch from my first Flintlock doe

The .54 caliber patched round ball that I shot a six-point buck with at about 40 yards went right through the ribcage and lungs of the deer. It knocked him right off his feet and he rolled. He did not get up. I was using a Thompson Center Seneca.

Where can you find brass slotted flathead woodscrews ?

I agree with a number of guys on here: Keep it period correct and use steel screws.

New to me Thompson Center Hawken .50

I don't know if you hunt, but that gun you bought is a DEERSLAYER! I have a TC Renegade in .54 caliber, and I have taken a deer with it. TC's are generally pretty accurate, some even VERY accurate, and will group shots on the range nicely. Good buy.

I picked this up today at the gun show….

Yep....you nailed it on the description. Anyone who has looked at real antiques could see that these features are a rather amateurish attempt at making it look old. I don't even think the person did this with the idea to deceive...they just thought "What can I do to make this look old?". They...

how about: 1 an area of wetness you are not reaching to dry out when finished cleaning , or 2 an intermittently plugged nipple. ?

If you had said "plasma cutter", I would have said "Whoa....now you've gone toooooo far with non-period correct...."
