    Hawken kit

My Hawken was built from a Pecatonica parts set. Has a 1" bbl X 32" lg in ,54 cal ...it weighs 9 lbs , has a sling and it's comfortable carrying all day.....partly using the sling. If I was to build another Hawken for elk, it would have a .54 tapered bbl X 35" lg {1" breech and 7/8" at the...

    The project after next project

Hi....the blanks were only sent out for just bbl inlettings and for the RR grooves and holes. No other work was done.. The recessd, horizontal gun rack is only for MLers....have a recessed , vertical gun rack for the modern stuff.

    The project after next project

Many years ago my first build was from a precarve and then went to blanks and w/ one exception of using one other precarve which reinforced my use of blanks. Bought a 14" bandsaw and after inletting 4 bbls and also doing the 4 RR holes and grooves, I sent the blanks and bbls out to those who...

    Cast off?

Because the Bucks County LRs I build are very slender and petite, I only make the castoff 3/16". But, the toe has neatly zero castoff for easier TG location.....Fred

    Weird Wood

I'd only be guessing as to why the layers didn't adhere to each other. Your guesses are as good as any,.....Fred

    Weird Wood

Bought a hard, maple blank for my 8th LR build and had the bbl and RR hole in and was starting to remove wood from behind the bbl....took a chisel cut and a 1/16" layer of wood lifted up. Seeing I had more wood to remove, I started the chisel and another layer popped up. Thought about...

Anything stopping me from shortening a Kibler?

Personally, I like the longer bbled rifles...after all, they are called "long rifles". But, as said previously, it's your gun so do whatever you will. A beautiful LR that after the bbl is shortened, will always look "sawed off". Why not buy another, shorter bbled gun?.....Fred

My early attempts at a Bucks County LR

Thanks to all for the kind words....but, I sincerely don't post photos of my builds so as to receive compliments. I wish more builders would undertake this style which "grabbed" me many years ago. When first starting to build BCs, many what should have been BC off the shelf items weren't...

My early attempts at a Bucks County LR

I think you mean the progression of research for BC details and gaining the skills to build BCs? To begin....there wasn't a whole lot of info on BCs and the few builders who made BCs weren't that "open" w/ their info. But one BC builder did offer info and I'm very grateful to this builder. Also...

My early attempts at a Bucks County LR

Shown is one of 2 early attempts of a BC ....used a "C" weight bbl and a TG and Bplate that weren't suitable. After these 2 "BCs", found a TG and Bplate that req'd a little work to convert them to BCs. I think Knob Mountain now has both a BC TG and Bplate....how handy and am looking forward to...

    Bottoming Files

I don't use flat rifler files....only the curved ones. I was a tool and diemaker and the companies I worked for supplied the files....mostly Swiss. Must be some catalogs that have rifler files.....Fred

    Full length bedding

Chris in Se.....just responding to some of the posts that don't have oversize bbl inlets and are still epoxied....Fred

    Full length bedding

I don't agree w/ your premises...Besides saturating the market for MLers and making it difficult for the 1-3 guns/ year MLer builder to sell his builds, the assemblers of these CNCed MLers learn next to nothing about really building. Could go on, but won't.....Fred

    Full length bedding

I have never bedded a bbl w/ modern epoxy or any of the other modern "stuff". The entire length of the inside surfaces of the forestock of my builds receive one coat of LMF sealer....not for strength but to seal. I guess we're now in the age of doing everything w/ modern "stuff" and CNCed LRs...
