    Blank rounds and Fire danger

I use foil chargers in my cannons, and they make a big bang 1.25/1.5 in bore, and they have been heard over 1 mile away. I do live fire and blank fire, with the blank fire just use a foil charge, have yet to start a fire, and have shot in to dry grass and bushes.

    Powder granulation importance?

Not guns but mortar. I have found with my 24 pound/5.8 inch bore mortar that powder grain size makes a difference. I have used 1f,2f and 3f, but now only use 1f as the 2f/3f burn to hot and fast. With 1 once 1f the ball will go appoz 100 yards, with either 2 or 3f the ball will go any where...

    slow match

I have a question, got some match from Dixe gun works. Problem is i have a hard time getting the priming charge to go off on my cannons, i am using 3f, it goes fine if i use a grill lighter, (not safe). I have been told that i do not have a bright red tip on my match, it looks a dull red.

    Explosive Cannonballs

What i have been told is you need a pyrotechnician's license. I own 5.8 in bore bronze mortar that i do live fire demo's with, use solid shot, checked on exploding ones and was told i would have to be a licensed pyrotechnician, so guess what i will try for next year.

    Negativity towards Traditions guns

Ok, so do i get to look down on every one now, as i own 4 cannons and a mortar. OK Just joking. I love all shooting black powder, and have fired matchlock, flint and percussion, guns. And i don't care how much they cost, yes i would love to own a custom made one, but will never be in my...

    Advice Please

I ment a .490 ball. As for recoil my 1.5 in ships cannon (the small one in the photo)rolls back about 6 feet, 6 ounce ball 1.5 ounces powder, my field cannon is a 1.5 in bore and has a skid plate and that only moves a 1 foot max.with the same powder charge. I have run up to 4 oz powder blank...

    Advice Please

Start off with about 50 grains and work up from there,Use a .440 ball and .010 patch, use about 4 fingers for fuse, that should give you enough time to step away. I think it looks the part to me. I don't have one that small yet,any way enjoy it and be safe.

    Percussion cap shortage

A cannon with grape shot. That would work, I lived through the riots in Minneapolis,(6 blocks from ground zero) and had my 2 .44 revolvers, all most brought a cannon home.

"The Origins of the NMLRA Cannon Program"

I have worked and trained under A group here in MN, that has been around since 1863(do not want to say group right now). And I/WE do live fire demo's, yes there is a rigid training program, and a test to take. Me and my wife have passed it, so I do live fire demo's now. Just don't make a mistake...

    Using mask while melting lead.

I cast lead balls for my cannons. OK they are 1.25/1.5 in bore, and the balls weigh 6oz to 8oz each. I use what scrap lead i can get, but allways do it out side, cast about 50 at any one time, that is enough for a year. My biggest problem is remembering not to grab a hot mold or ball, learn fast.

DEER HUNTING WITH A CANNON (Oldie but Goldie)

I have people ask me i i go deer shooting with my 1.25 in bore ships cannon. Ok so i can lift it but would not want to hold it when it goes bang!. I think you would have a lot of broken bones, and try to explain that one to the doctor in the ER.
