    Realistic time to build a kit?

    I think I have put in about 10 hours on my traditions Kentucky rifle kit so far, my be another 10 before it's done. It is just a plain, but will sill look good for a first time job. I think it is a good starter kit, and can not wait to do another kit. Will be another flint lock.

    cannoneering classes for cannon noob?

    I would suggest that you try to find a civil war group near you, they are a good source of info and can help you with the big guns. I have worked with 2 full size(one 3in 12pound and a 2.5in bore)and have even fired one. We run with a crew of 5 mainly for safety.

    cannoning illegal?

    Got to fire my 1.25in cannon on July 4th last, in a small city right next to city hall. I was one of 2 cannons that weekend, the other one was 1.5in bore and had no problems, my because we were invited. Will there this year, and might have a civil war 12 pounder this year as well. :surrender:

    More India made smoothies!?!?!

    I am looking at getting a 1st pattern brown bess in the next 6 months, and have no problem buying a India made one. The price is right for me, plus I have looked at some before. Peter

    Barrel length and powder chamber dimensions?

    I use 1.5 to 2 ounces of BP in my 1.25 in bore cannon with a 6oz lead shot. Ball will go nearly 1 mile. In my mortar I use about 1 ounce of BP the ball which weighs 24 pounds goes 100 yards, with a 8 ounce charge the ball will go appox 1/2 mile peter

    New toy

    Having got a mortar this August I have had fun with it. It is a 24 pound colhorn, and has a range of a 1/2 mile!. The best thing is you can watch the ball and see how the wind will blow it of course. I do civil war and other events with it. :grin: Peter

    I live in Albert Lea,MN. And been in to muzzle loading for about 5 years. I own a cva .50 hawken, a cva .45 pistol and 2 big toys. The first is a 1.25inch cannon and my latest toy is a 5in bore coehorn mortar. :) Peter
