    Hopkins and Allen .45 underhammer

Not quite. None of the GM barrels with breechplugs will attach to the H&A action. What you want is the .54 or .58 barrel without a breechplug, but with 5/8 x 18 threads for a breechplug. Then use a 5/8 x 18 bolt from a hardware store to fabricate a breech plug for the H&A. You will also need to...

    Hopkins and Allen .45 underhammer

I've made several barrels of various calibers for my H&A's. Two were from Green Mountain (link below), which are nice because they are already threaded for a 5/8" x 18 breech plug. At one time you could buy plugs from H&A. but those days are over. However, it's not difficult to fabricate a plug...

    Hopkins and Allen .45 underhammer

A big plus with H&A underhammers - it's quite easy to fit a second barrel to the action in whatever caliber and length you want and have easily interchangeable barrels. You can even set up a shotgun barrel. I'd buy it in a flash.

    Hawken rifle again

It's not a 36"+ barrel, but 32" is plenty in my book.

    Ignition woes

I suspect you can solve your problem by running a very wet 91% Isopropyl alcohol patch down the barrel and pumping the patch vigorously to blow some alcohol out of the nipple before the first loading. Give the alcohol a few minutes to dry before dumping the powder.

    Flints

Slightly off topic, but...... I recently started a new medication that's giving me very vivid and weird dreams. A few nights ago I dreamed I was walking along a creek bed with a staff in my hand searching for mushrooms. I spotted an unusual looking stone shaped like a football. When I tried to...

    .58 ball size

I have three 58's and use .575 in all three. One is a Green Mountain barrel, one a Sharon barrel and one an H&A Minuteman (don't know who made those barrels). I wish Lee would make a .570 mold though. That would provide more flexibility for experimenting with patch thickness.

My Powder Drum Blew Out. Is My Barrel Done For?

Actually, that's a simple fix. Drums are not difficult to make using hardware store bolts. Figure out what size bolt is just a bit larger than the existing hole. Then drill and tap the barrel to the thread size of that bolt. Make a new drum from a bolt. You will need to cut it to size, center...

    Comments at the range

A long long time ago (1960) in a galaxy far far away (a suburb of New Orleans) I was a 16 year old who had acquired and learned to shoot a 20 GA Belgian made double caplock. My favorite after school activity was to go the the batture of the Mississippi river just upstream of the Huey P. Long...
