    Dragoon "wedge" tight

My Uberti version is similar, and I use the same plastic mallet on it that I use for opening the sprue plates on my molds when casting. Works quite well, both for popping it out and reseating it.

    Pan primer

Yes it does. I'm not familiar with Eastern guns or accoutrements, but this looks like a really nifty idea.

    Pattern Checking

Sounds like a Foxworthy joke. "If you've ever patterned a shotgun on a road sign, you might be a redneck." 😄 I used to know a guy who owned a bicycle shop and he'd give me the boxes the bikes came in (large, flat cardboard boxes) for free. What I didn't take he had picked up by the city for...

    Ballistol Substitute

Interesting topic. I've been using Ballistol for quite a while and it works great, but something in it doesn't agree with me and I go into coughing fits every time I use it. Once I have my patches made up and am actually shooting I have no issues and no signs of contact allergy on my skin or...

    Can this rifle be helped?

Another vote for wall hanger. Great price you got on it. Ya done good. You can't get a totally fake cast zinc and soft wood prop muzzleloader for that price these days. With a little elbow grease to preserve it, you'll have a nice piece of history to admire and a nice conversation piece. :thumb:

First attempt at pouring round balls.

My big molds (.715 and .610) are singles, and my smaller ones (.454, .380, etc.) are all doubles. For the occasional shooting I do they are just fine. I also really enjoy casting, so I don't mind taking my time. I've never used any of the large "gang" molds, but I've seen issues like those...

First attempt at pouring round balls.

I used to cast until the mold got hot enough to produce smooth balls, then throw the wrinklies back in the pot, but now I just make sure the melting pot is full almost to the top each time I start, and I rest the mold on top of the pot so the bottom of the mold rests in the molten lead within...

    Help identifying this Brown Bess

My first thought was Pedersoli too, but there are some oddities with it. The trigger guard is a different shape at the front with no sling swivel hole and there is no front swivel on the stock, nor a hole for the bolt that holds it on. The thumb plate on the wrist of the stock (from what I can...

Are you kidding me? >>A Rant<<

Oh, so we're doin' fancy spellin' now? Whilom, as olde stories tellen us, Ther was a duc that highte Theseus; Of Atthenes he was lord and governour, And in his tyme swich a conquerour That gretter was ther noon under the sonne. Ful many a riche contree hadde he wonne... 😄

    Pederoli Brown Bess Missing Pins

That is really weird. It should have come fully assembled. It's almost like the factory put everything in place then forgot to put the pins in, from the sound of it. I know Dixie carries some Pedersoli Bess parts, but I don't know about pins. As springfield said, though, they will be easy...

    Broke into black powder yesterday.

That's a great gun for a starter. Hooked breech with single wedge for ease of cleaning, synthetic rammer for strength, adjustable sights, etc. It lets you focus on shooting rather than having to figure out some of the maintenance concerns and physical limitations of truly traditional guns...

    The big ten!

I've eaten crow many times, usually with a slice of humble pie on the side... 😄 Great work with the Big 10. I always enjoy your hunting pics. 👍

Can I use grease from cooking as patch lube?

You should start selling it. Your motto could be: Throw some bear in your hair!

    Percussion or Flintlock?

How big does a molehill have to be before it's considered a mountain? 🤔

    Percussion or Flintlock?

Aw, man, now we gotta decide what qualifies as a "mountain." 😄

How do you take off the crown from a flint ?

A black English gun flint is about 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. I've read that when converted from the Rockwell C scale hardened steel roughly ranges from about 7-8 on the same scale. A good steel file would be at or near the upper end of that range, so you could theoretically work down the...

Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. Announces Intent to Divest Thompson/Center Arms™ Brand

Ruger picked up Marlin and is supposed to be producing guns by the end of this year. TC might be another worthy acquisition for them. One can dream at least. Ruger certainly has the means and the manufacturing capabilities. 🤔

    How many shoot bp only?

If it launches a projectile, I'm interested in it, whether modern gun, ML, airgun, bow, crossbow, slingshot, atlatl, or whatever. I think I may have a problem...😄 I actually do shoot MLs more often than unmentionables nowadays, but I still love them all.
