    Electronic Hearing Protection

I have a set of Walker's Razor muffs. They do eat batteries fairly quickly...when I actually use them. The trouble with this particular model is that the ear cup pads are small and sit on top of my ears and squish them against my head unless I sort of tuck my ears into them (though others may...

Pietta Starr D.A. Civil War revolver

I believe the Pietta version is the same. To shoot single action you squeeze the main trigger back until the hammer is cocked, then let the trigger return forward and fire the gun by squeezing the smaller trigger or lever at the rear of the trigger guard. Double action is achieved by simply...

    OOPS in the olden days.

Here's a vid on the subject. Make of it what you will. He starts talking about the horn at around 1:30 and the action takes place around 6:10 or so.

    Curious about nipples

As far as I know Pietta and Uberti have used their respective nipple threads (M6x.75 for Pietta and 12-28 for Uberti) for a long time. If they ever used the same thread, I'm not aware of it. I'd pull a nipple from each gun/cylinder and measure them with a thread gauge. :thumb:

Making Substitute 4F Powder - Question

Try a main charge of 2f and a pinch of 2f in the pan first and see how it goes. If it's slow, you can safely grind a small bit at a time down to a finer grain with a non-sparking mortar and pestle and try again (I wouldn't do more than perhaps a soda bottle lid's worth of powder at a time and...

    Hello from Don Jose

Better 15 years late than never. :thumb: That's a pause even William Shatner would be impressed by. 😄

Not bad for a 159 year old piece. :thumb:

That rings a bell with me too. Something like 1:24?

    What gun do I have

Looks like an Investarm model 150 in carbine form (20" instead of 28" barrel and single ramrod thimble). Not sure what the twist would be. Try this method:

    Ramrod for .22 cal

I would lean toward brass too. Seems like there'd be less wear and tear on the barrel that way. I'd personally go 3/16 like Zonie said.

Interesting. I take it you drill down into the hammer channel and press a pin into the hole to make these posts?

    Powder measure

Ballpark is close enough for my needs. I made my fixed measures by using my adjustable measure as the "known" quantity and slowly drilling until the fixed measures would hold the exact amount thrown by the adjustable measure, whether 35, 60, 75, 90 grains, etc. If my 75 grain measure throws 70...

    Powder measure

I have the same measure Hatchet-Jack posted above when I want adjustability. For fixed measures, I've made 'em from antler, wood, and delrin rod. My homemade ones have been made freehand with a drill, as I don't have a drill press. It's not too tough if you have a bench vise. The holes in a...

1,200 Yard .45 Cal Sidelock (Rice Barrels 1:17 Twist)

Very Quigley-esque. :thumb: I don't think I could even see a 20"x20" target at 1200 yds, even with my glasses. I'd need a scope. :dunno:
