    The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium

I ordered twice from them in the last month. Both orders were shipped the day that I ordered. Both orders were over the phone and they were very pleasant to deal with. It seems they really appreciate your business.

Rice Barrel Co has a great stainless rod available in different diameters and lengths and very reasonably priced.

    Cold/hot browning

Laurel Mountain Forge has been my go to browning for years. I very seldom use a humidity box even in the winter. It just takes a little longer if you don't use a box. One other thing about stopping the after rust - after washing with baking soda, heat the barrel with a propane torch until it...

    Bore scope

I just got the MS450 from Amazon. It has it's own 4.5" handheld screen. No need for computers or downloading software.

    First inlay attempt......

On your next attempt, inlay it first before engraving. These small gaps can be eliminated easily by peening the edges of the brass to stretch the metal. You could maybe even try it now but you may have to re-cut some engraving. Inlays should be installed, filed flush to the wood then engraved.

    Hopkins and Allen .45 underhammer

If you go to buy extra nipples for it, be advised that they are threaded 1/4-32. You can get them from Track of the Wolf.

Why not remove the breech plug????

Check out Rice Barrel Co. They sell vise jaws and a breech plug wrench. Best money I've ever spent.

    Need advice with lock removal

With some single set triggers, the trigger must be set first before the lock will ****. You might try that .

Best way to plug a barrel for immersion

I use a piece of galvanized fence post with an end cap to seal one end. Got it at Lowe's. File a notch in the other end to accept a round rod. Hang your barrel from this and pour boiling water over it. Then use a propane torch to heat the pipe to keep the water boiling for however long you want...

    Help with lock

You can use a small round file to relieve where the **** is hitting the stock. Much easier to use than a chisel.

    Mainspring vise

Without a doubt, this is the best one available. It can handle any size spring. Well worth the price. I have 2, one for the shop and one for my shooting box. I gave my other style away. https://thosmachine.wordpress.com/

    Breech Plug Removal

You definitely have to remove the breech plug if you are going to put in a liner. You need to make sure the liner doesn't extend into the barrel. I second the use of the Rice's breech plug tool and vice jaws - they are great. Another alternative would be to grind the jaws of an adjustable...

    What was your first Muzzleloader?

H&A underhammer rifle for me. Given to me by a girl I was dating. Interesting thing is she taught me how to shoot it.

    Under Rib Installation.

I use Solder-It paste silver bearing solder. It has the flux mixed in with the solder. It's really easy to use. Just clean the metal well, apply the paste, clamp it together and hit it with a propane torch. You can find it at Home Depot or online.

    Inletting black

Try some lacquer thinner on the wood. Then go to the NAPA store and get a tube of Prussian blue. It cleans up so much easier than inletting black.

Your opinion of best cold blue product?

If using LMF to rust blue, you do not have to boil after every application. Just boil after the final application. I have done it both ways and there is no difference.

    Short Guys & Long Barrels?

Another thing you might consider. Will you be able to see the front sight clearly on a 46" barrel. I can't.

When building a rifle from a blank or kit, are there any steps U dislike?

Polishing metal. Nothing more aggravating than spending time filing down castings only to have a big void magically appear.

    Range rod for a .32

Rice's rods come threaded 10-32 or 8-32. They have a threaded knob and nylon bore protector. Very reasonably priced. Give Jason a call and he can fix you up.
