    Sloppy sideplate

I'm more offended by the grossly oversized sideplate than I am with the inletting. Do as Dane suggests, make or find a new, properly sized plate. Remove the old ugliness. Glue and replace the left panel. Anything is better than what's going on now.

    will lock interchange?

But getting the sear bar and proper pan alignment with two different locks might not be as easy as shaping a lock plate to fit a mortice. It might be easier to find someone who can tune the lock for you. Brad Emig/Cabin Creek does such work. I've used several m&g locks ,and never thought...

    will lock interchange?

There's a few what ifs and maybes involved in that question. Without the new lock in hand, its purely speculative.

    Rust bluing ?

I've bleached and boiled barrels and parts for antiquing and aging effects. No matter how much or how long, you won't get a consistent finish. It's very aggressive. Put cold blue on first ,then bleach, its really aggressive. For a uniform finish, use LMF or other similar product

    Fusil de Chasse of love

Aside from the barrel profile not being true to an original fdc barrel, and wood not being European walnut, it makes a decent fusil.. Architecturally it has good lines . If you want it to look right. The lock panels and carving will be lost when properly shaping the lock panels, carving will...
