Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

Found it; the mounting screws are 6-48, and need a nr. 31 drill bit. And of course, all Ace had was a 6-32 tap...

Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

I'm in a town in the middle of the desert right now, with exactly one Ace hardware store, and I seriously doubt they sell gun screws.

Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

Yep, you're right. I wasn't thinking; 7/32 is way too big for the mounting screws, which are what I need to drill and tap for.

Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

Thanks... guess you're a better searcher than I am. I don't claim to be any internet maven. :)

Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

If they answer emails like they ship, I'll be waiting a while for an answer. But I'll give it a shot... I don't have any way of checking the threads on something that small.

Drill & tap size for Johnson peep sight

Does anyone know what size drill and tap to use for the screws that come with the Johnson peep sight?

    Kibler Colonial Kit Assembled

I had no idea what was waiting for me, when I clicked on this thread. Such a pleasure... But I think you missed a piece. I didn't see any carving on the flint... :)

    Largest caliber single shot pistol?

I have a couple of repro .68 cal Tower pistols. Can't hit the broad side of a barn with them at any distance, but everyone I hand them to gets a big kick out of firing them anyway.

SOLD Berry, Egg, and Fruit basket

I'm not in the market for one, but I'm seriously impressed.

    SOLD CVA .50 Squirrel Rifle

A .50 cal squirrel gun? y'all must have some heavy-duty squirrels in your neck of the woods. 😁 I'm joking; it looks like a nice clean, easy-to-handle little rifle.

    Small caliber shooting?

Jim Kibler at kiblerlongrifles.com sells a southern mountain flintlock kit in .32, .36, .40 and .45 calibers, if you're willing to put a little time into building your own. If his kits were any easier to put together, they'd hop out of the crate and assemble themselves...

    The "Myth" of Cylinder Swapping?

I'm in the camp that thinks extra revolvers were probably a whole lot more common than extra cylinders. I just can't picture a cavalryman or guerilla fumbling with both hands to swap out cylinders, on a moving horse in the heat of battle... and they were the ones likely to be armed with...

    frozen game question

When I was a kid, someone gave my grandmother some bear meat. It was tasty but tough, so she turned it into chicken-fried steaks: sliced it up, pounded it with a tenderizing mallet, breaded it, and deep fried it. She stacked the steaks up with waxed paper between them, wrapped them, and stuck...

    Do I just have a “short-range” rifle?

It's the reason for my poor shooting. Or at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. 😁 In other news though, I just bought a Johnson peep sight for my .40 cal Kibler. We'll see if it makes any difference...

    Do I just have a “short-range” rifle?

And again, I'd like to know if he tried the 60g load at 50 yards, and got the same results as when using the lighter loads. It's possible the heavier charge is overpowering the ability of shallow rifling to grip the patch and ball... or just creating different harmonics in the barrel.

    Southern Mountain Rifles

I'm no expert, but I think it was fairly common.

    Do I just have a “short-range” rifle?

My .40 cal Kibler southern mountain rifle has 1:48 twist, and I think Jim knows a little bit about muzzleloaders... Question: when you increase the powder charge to 60g, do you still get 2" groups at 50 yards?

    Recommended gun building cd’s?

I would suggest Jim Kibler's videos. They're specifically about putting together his kits, but there's a lot to learn about general techniques along the way. You should be able to find them by looking up Kibler long rifles on youtube...

    SOLD CVA .54 Hawken

Dang. To think I just bought a new toilet for my shop, when I could've had a Hawken instead.

God, Guns & Guts Dinner Display......

I like guns, and I own a lot of them. But I'm always uneasy about attempts to attach guns to ***, politics or religion...
