    Rifle covers

I use horse blanket from October Country and leather cases. I try to to wipe down dirty guns with my version of moose milk really well, before re-casing in any fabric or leather. Don’t want old powder residue in there when I put a cleaned gun back in.

    Considering a Double

if you have to wait that long, hopefully means your getting “fresh one”. even with its problems, right now, the one I have is my favorite gun to shoot. I shot 40 shots at clay birds yesterday, with only a couple misfires. I even knocked down a true pair. ( still learning to shoot at clays)

Oh the Chains that Bind Us

No, but if you put it all in one hand, it’s pretty heavy. It’s definitely not your typical mountain man set up. I prefer to think of it in the style of, “Olde English Country Club” haha.

    Remington arms .45 pistol

One of those sold on gunbroker recently. It was described as having a chrome lined barrel and chrome lock.

Oh the Chains that Bind Us

This is what I carry while walking the course, and it is pretty heavy. I know that I could leave the heavy brass ramrod behind, but I just like it better than the one that came with the gun. And I use a recoil pad only to protect the butt end while loading.

Oh the Chains that Bind Us

When shooting at sporting clay course you can prepare for and shoot as few shots as are comfortable for you. It’s pretty casual, unless you are competing. So for me, I walk it, at my own pace, getting some exercise. And quit, usually before the powder or shot that I carry, runs out. Basically...

    Considering a Double

I have been shooting my very newly acquired 20 ga pedersoli double, also purchased from Dixie. On mine the LEFT lock has a frizzen spring that is longer and stiffer than the right. And the open frizzens are not mirror images of each other. I didnt return mine, so far it is firing pretty good...

Oh the Chains that Bind Us

I usually shoot at about 30 to 40 clays and I am selective regarding the stations that I shoot from. So I’m never attempting to complete an entire course. I carry about 3/4 of of a pound of powder in my horn and about 3-4 pounds of shot In a hard leather flask with Irish spout. Wads and other...

Can you see what I'm doing wrong?

Oops, what cutfinger just said. So sorry.

Can you see what I'm doing wrong?

In first two videos with flintock, your left hand fingers are open under the gun. In video with the enfield, your left hand fingers grip the gun?

Managing two locks on the same gun is a trip! Flintock or percussion. Enjoy.

As long as your overshot card creates a vacuum seal, pushes back some, the vacuum works both ways. Hard to push down and hard to dislodge. if your cards are too small to feel the vacuum push back, just shove a 1/2 inch lubed fiber wad on top, that’s snug enough to hold.

Sporting clay courses, woods walk for smoothbore shotgunners?

I did a search and most of the recent posts that include a reference to shooting sporting clay courses were posted by yours trully. Haha. So, I thought I would start a thread re shooting sporting clay courses with our muzzleloaders. I think that shooting muzzleloading smootbores at 5 stand does...
