Attempting to customize a CRKT hammer pole tomahawk.

Here is a 18th century hammer poll tomahawk that sold for over $87,000 at a 2006 Bonhams auction .

Attempting to customize a CRKT hammer pole tomahawk.

Crewdawg445, really. Here are some photos of early Indian and colonial tomahawks, one dated as early as 1757 and others from 1850 to 1875. This one is dated 1757 This one 1850-1875 This one 1850-1875. This one 1850-1875 I can show many more but this should be sufficient. I think my...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

I believe I have my sight situation pretty much remedied. I went to the range yesterday after raising my rear sight by about 3/16” by soldering another sight base on to my rear sight. I set my target at the 75yd. berm and loaded the rifle with 70grs. of BP, a .535 Hornady round ball, and a .015...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

Pete G, I understand and will the next trip to the range. I just don't want to have to file it so low it doesn't look good. I have other production Hawken rifles and the front sight on the rifle I did isn't any taller than the ones on my Pedersoli and Uberti Hawken rifles. I will, however, file...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

DOUBLEDEUCE, as I stated to Brokennock above all my shooting of the rifle while at the range was off the bench using sand bags. Instead of trying to remember where I was holding the sights during each shot I stapled a 3" square dark colored piece of cardboard about 12"-14" directly above the...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

Brokennock, all my previous shooting at the range with the rifle was off the bench. When I figured out where to hold I stapled a 3" square dark green card about 12"-14" directly over the bulls eye on my target so I would have an object to focus on. I fired 6 shots. In the photo the 3 shots...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

Ames, I did the powder horn from a kit as well. DOUBLEDEUCE, thanks for the advise about the masking tape. I will give that a try.

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

Thanks PluggedNickel for you kind remarks. It certainly was a challenge for me but I enjoyed doing it. I took it to the range and after several shots from 50 yards I realized it was shooting low. I filed on the rear sight some to dress it up because it originally looked a little ragged and...

    First ever high-end kit rifle.

Here is my first ever high-end rifle kit build. It is a TOTW Kit Carson Hawken kit that I bought from an individual on this site. It was a kit he ordered and decided not to build so I purchased it from him. After receiving it and looking it over I thought maybe I had jumped off the deep end...

    Guns I've made

I cannot get the tang and barrel to mate seamlessly out of the stock. I did file enough to remove the casting line on the tang but no more for fear of messing up how the hook on the breach meshes with the slot in the tang since it is designed to fit precisely. The breach plug was installed to...

Sorry for the multiple posts. Moderators please delete my mistakes, Sort of like me trying to build my rifle kit. o_O

    Guns I've made

How can you file on the tang or breach for a better fit when the hook on the breach and the slot on the tang where the hook fits are matched to lock together precisely. It seems to me any filing where the flat surfaces meet would only widen.

    Guns I've made

Wow! I am fairly new at rifle kits. I bought a TOTW Kit Carson Hawken kit from and individual that originally purchased it and then decided they wanted to do something different. It is a great kit but it has been eating my lunch. I read after I purchased it that it should not be your first kit...

Attempting to customize a CRKT hammer pole tomahawk.

I used Berchwood Casey's plumb brown applied to a oven heated hawk head at about 220 degrees. Just where the solution sizzles when applied.

Throwing hawks or knives in combat?

Keep the tomahawk in your hand and if you feel you need to throw something at your combatant pick up a nice hefty rock and throw it at them, but never give up your weapon.

Attempting to customize a CRKT hammer pole tomahawk.

N.Y. Yankee, I do them as a hobby and collect them. At one time I had about 8 or 9 of them. I traded and gave some away to friends. I currently have about 7 I have done. I have used them in camp chores and in field dressing and quartering game. I have a few I use most of the time and I have ones...

Attempting to customize a CRKT hammer pole tomahawk.

DOUBLEDEUC, Thank you for the kind remarks. I had it done a week ago but other events have prevented me from posting any photos of the finished hawk until now. I am trying to do a TOTW gun kit that has been eating my lunch. I really have to take my hat off to guys who do the more difficult kits...
