    Original or Modern Copy ?

I have three of the Jukar pistols, they are .67 caliber, one thing I do notice is that the listed gun is a little more streamlined than the ones I have. Otherwise this is identical, I would say it’s a copy , if not I will sell one of mine for $1000. 😂

Historically Incorrect, or (A Story of Thread Counting and Delrin Rods)

I have heard this argument for 45 years, back in 1975 as the bicentennial was kicking off , the group I joined worked very hard to only have period correct guns and equipment. None of that was readily available so we researched finds and made our own stuff to go with the guns. Myself I like to...

    Clip on rear sight

I have several SBs and have tried different types of rear sights to improve RB accuracy. Only one has a dovetailed rear sight. On my Brown Bess I glued a piece of thick leather on the rear of the barrel and used a knife to cut a notch as an aiming point, works great and can be removed at any time.

Small game- .32 cal vs smoothbore

I have been in your position. I have several smooth bores and rifles. Both have there place. If you are shooting beyond 40 yards at small game a rifle works well. Something to consider; I was hunting birds and rabbits with my Brown Bess, loaded with shot. While walking on the trail I ran into a...

how did the long hunters clean there guns,,,,,,,,,,,

Having spent weeks at a time on the trail or hunting , I would say that they did not shoot very much, just as needed. I cleaned my gun by just wiping it down on the outside unless I had shot it. Depending on weather I would pull the load every couple of days and do a hot water wipe down then...

    Newb question about powder

I have used them all over time. I use 3f 90% of the time, mostly in guns .54 cal and bigger. It works great for priming too. One horn of 3f for loads and prime, it shoots well in my brown bess also. But some guns shoot differently with different grains and charges. Experiment to find the best combo.

Pedersoli Classic .12 gauge and .690” ball?

I have a pedersoli double but only shoot shot in it. I have a cva double that I added sights to just for RB shooting, I use a patched .705 ball and 90 hrs of 3f. At 75 yards it shoots a 3” group. My longest game shot with it was 80 yards on a caribou.

How short of a barrel makes sense?

I have a variety of guns/ barrel lengths. I have a trade gun .62 cal with a 24” barrel, at 50 yards it will keep RB. On a playing card but at 75 yards it’s more like a large plate. I have a cutdown Bess with a 32” barrel that will shoot a 10” group at 100 yards. Great for a smoothie. In a rifled...

    Tea as a filler?

I always use cornmeal as a filler, a lot less mess than grease.

    Prime with 3 or 4F

I always use 3f for both, never had any ignition problems. If i use a small pistol lock then maybe 4f, also 4 f is an uncoated powder, you will see that 4 f has a dull color, 3f and larger have a shiny finish. That is why 4f is more susceptible to moisture.

    54 round ball for... beaver?

A 54 would not be my first choice but it will work, I have taken a few rabbits with mine using 55 gr and prb, it just punches a clean hole. We can’t shoot beaver in AK

When hunting do you dress the part?

I have done so many times , it depends on how long I have to hunt, 7-10 days I go period (1760). If I only have a couple of days then not.

    Swivel gun recoil--need help

Nice gun and mount, My 2" gun is mounted on a wheeled carriage, I use only 300 grs of cannon powder and it recoils pretty good, the barrel weight is 120 lbs. I have used as low as 150 grs of powder, I think part of your problem is too much powder, with 500 grs I can hit targets at 600 yards...

    Cannon Paintball?

For target shooting I have used two 4x8 sheets of plywood nailed up to make an 8x8 target. I painted them white and drew rings on it like any target. Pretty easy to see 2" holes. this is what I used to calibrate my aiming tools and log book. you should be able to hit a target that size from at...

    Powder for cannon...

A friend of mine had a 3 pounder cannon and used blasting powder in it, big clouds of yellow-green smoke, the difference I saw was the grains were larger than cannon powder, but the pressures were not as high. I use cannon grade Goex in my 2" bore gun, big grain size when compared to musket or...
