    TV OF INTEREST

I'm looking forward to the "American Long Rifle" episode. I've been emailing a guy some of you might know Mike Davis http://davislongrifle.weebly.com/ about having a rifle built. Had no idea at the time that he was going to be in this episode. Small world....

    Murphy's Soap???

I don't know about shelf life but I've been using a batch a friend made for me over 20 years ago! I used to clean with it but now I just use it as a patch lube.

    New Flinter on the way!

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

I like mine! Haven't shot it a whole lot. I did shoot in a match that involved 12 charcoal briquettes glued to cardboard. I hit 3 off hand at 40 yards. Not bad since the Sun was in my eyes! ;)

My first muzzleloader rifle and I built it myself!

Welcome to the forum! Looks good to me. I may be mistaken but I think the rear sight is in backwards....

New (to me) Maple Stocked Kentucky .45

Nice looking rifle you got there. Really like the wood.

    Your first muzzleloader?

My first taste of black powder happened over 40 years ago when my dad bought me a CVA Kentucky rifle kit. I was about 13 and like many that age I was all excited about it for about 10 minutes then my attention went in another direction. It was three years before I slapped the kit together and I...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

Well TOTW isn't going to cover shipping, which I figured would be the case. So I packed up the rifle and took it to the local postal annex and $106 later the rifle is on it's way Fedex. This has been quite the experience. Living in a virtual black powder wasteland there's not many choices when...

    Black 47

Just watched it on my Fire Stick/Kodi. In a word grim. Superbly acted although sometimes difficult to understand due to thick accents. There are some subtitles because they speak Irish. All said and done an excellent movie. Very realistic use of firearms both flint and cap I thought.

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

No one is more amazed than I was. Believe me this is not my first rodeo. I bought my first flinter 30 years ago. Still have it. It's a Traditions Hawken a paid $140 new. I did have to take a dremel to deepen the pan and enlarge the touch hole. Don't recall ever having a hang fire with it. Flash...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

I don't think anyone wants this rifle at this point. I actually paid $1700 for it which I thought was a deal at the time. If I'd known the touch hole was off center I wouldn't have bought it. I let TOTW know this in an email I just sent to them. Their own ad for this gun stated: "A vent liner...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

Well I just got home from the charity shoot. I could use some charity about now. :( I shot at 18 targets and had 18 hang fires. :cursing: I managed to hit 10 in a row 11 total but talk about follow through. I had to hold on target for a good 1 or 2 seconds waiting for the gun to go off! The...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

Well I got my email reply. Sounds good to me. Dear Kenny: Yes, we extend your approval period until November 1st. Yes, please test fire the rifle and report your success. Prime with 1/3 pan full of GOEX FFFFg, banked well away from the vent hole. No synthetics, no substitutes, do not cover...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

Whether the rifle is PC/HC is a non issue for me. The position of the touch hole plays more on my sense of symmetry. My OCD can't take it :cursing: Since it was after business hours by the time I got around to it I sent TOTW an email with the photo of the touch hole. I asked if I could test...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

You guys are killin' me! :cursing: Return it, don't return it. :idunno: It's not put together right, it looks gorgeous! :headslap: The red on the frizzen is just reflective light. I've been dry firing it with the flint that was already mounted just to get the feel of it. The trigger is...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

Well ya'll made me feel better about this. I was up all night worrying. I was all ready to ship it back to TOTW for a refund. I'll just shoot it and if there are issues I'll hit the pan with my Dremel. I have a charity shoot this Sat so I'll find out how it shoots. Regardless I think I got...

I'm Still Shaking! Placed Order for Rifle

The hole is about even with the top of the pan. I'd say the touch hole is about 1/8" ahead of breech plug...
